Hhullugin is a chthonian who was kicked out of his tribe for petty thefts. A few dozen of them over the course of a year or so. It was a habit he could not kick. He found his way to the world above, frightened and lost, but he was taken in by a variety of kind strangers, from each of whom he stole. He eventually became unwelcome in most of the civilized world, and he took ship to Starfall, where he hoped the lawlessness of the frontier would work in his favor. Mostly, it did not. He was chased by angry mercenaries, mad wizards, and monsters until he found his way into the caves. Under Starfall, near the Pit, the caves are completely devastated, much as the surface. Hhullugin found that he was able to traverse them well enough, however, and he somehow came out in Harkanheim.

His petty theft turned quickly into a liability. He was captured and left in a cage to starve. Then, Hhullugin talked a passerby into letting him out. He found himself quite talented, when his back was to the wall, at convincing others to help him. He added this skill to his repertoire and soon became successful as a thief. This lead to other thieves joining him, seeking his silver tongue to help them out. He began a guild.

Ten years later, Hhullugin was the head of a guild of thieves in what was likely the most dangerous nation in the world. He came to the attention of Harkan himself, and he was offered a choice: serve as an emissary to Vesturia, where his silver tongue might come in handy, or be tossed into the Pit.

The choice was rather easy. He was sent as an ambassador to the Court of Night, where his underground senses would help him in the darkness of the Nightclad City. He was told to make an alliance for runesmiths in exchange for fuligin and monsters.
