| Description | Haerdians are anthropomorphic cod fish. They are about 6' tall, with 3 rounded dorsal fins, 2 small gluteal fins, smaller fins on their necks next to their gills, larger fins on their arms, and a small tail fin. Their eyes are slightly larger than normal, and they have a small chin barbel. They are usually dark brown in color, but Palhuric haberdians can change color depending on the depth they live at: higher ones are gray-green, deeper ones are reddish brown. All haberdians have a white line of flesh running from their necks to their tail fins along the sides of their bodies. |
| Procreation | Follows the mother. Lays eggs. |
| Magic | One in five million have heart or soul magic. Mind and body magic are possible. Void is possible. Faith is not uncommon. |
| Special Powers | Haberdians' livers produce a nourishing oil that keeps them alive for a long time. This oil is coveted by many, especially magic users. Some haberdians are born with a crown-like skull protrusion that allows them to transform their tails to legs and walk and breath on land, where they can predict the weather. Palhuric haberdians change colors at various depths. |
| Weaknesses | Haberdians are plagued by parasitic worms. |
| Culture | Haberdians are split into three tribes: Palhuric, Wyren, and Altic. Palhuric haberdians dominate the oceans north of the continent of Palhur. They have a powerful feudal kingdom there. Wyren haberdians are more relaxed, with spread out farming communities beneath the waves. Altic haberdians are hunter-gatherers who live in small, fierce tribes. The few constants between tribes are their fastidiousness (to keep the parasites away), hunting skills and traditions, identical courtship displays (fin displays and male grunting), mating rituals (intercourse while swimming in circles), and their assumption of being the dominant people under the seas. |
