With the head, wings, & foretalons of an eagle & the body of a lion, the griffon is a magnificent beast much larger than a normal lion. This royal beast builds nests & lays agates instead of eggs. They are holy to sun faithful, but they are most useful to mountain dwarves, as they often serve as steeds. They also naturally defend mountain mines of dwarves, having a strange protective nature towards gold, especially. They also have a stong affinity for the light, & they will protect a light source in a dark place unto death.

Griffons mate for life. When the female is ready to lay her agate-eggs, she will find a large cave with a narrow entrance. She only ever lays three agate-eggs at a time.

Griffons & horses notoriously do not get along, but a well trained horse can bear the presence of a griffon.

Griffons are some of the few animals who are capable of sinning, & those thta die with sin on their souls are damned to the Hells, where their souls pull chariots carrying damned women to any who dare try to rescue them.

Gnomes find griffons to be a delicacy.
