Greater Elemental

Embodiments of major elemental forms on Shem.

Basics

  • Taxonomic Order: Inmortals

  • Alignment: Aetherial

  • Energy: All forms of aether

  • Lifespan: Inmortal

  • Diet: Aether

  • Habitat: Anywhere that reflects their aetherial base

Origins

As larger physical forms took shape on Shem, some gained consciousness and souls.

Description

Greater elementals vary by individual, but certain themes generally occur on different worlds. On Shem, the following themes exist:

  • Seasonal elementals take the form of legendary figures.

  • Oceanic elementals take the form of water silhouettes.

  • Continental or tectonic elementals take the form of rock or earth golems bound to the ground.

  • Mountain elementals remain in mountain form but with a face.

  • Cardinal wind elementals clothe themselves in clouds in order to show a silhouette.

  • Epochal elementals appear to be anthropomorphic brown light forms.

  • Lunar elementals look like pets or puppets to their nephesh. Shem's moons are wolves.

  • River elementals appear to be flowing silhouettes.

  • Biome elementals appear to be more individualized but made up of the features of their biome.

  • Atmospheric elementals appear to be vast faces in the sky.

  • Taxonomic elementals appear to be advanced members of that taxon.

Procreation

Greater elementals form when enough elemental energy amasses.

Powers

A greater elemental represents a major aspect of nature, and thus controls and commands that aspect of nature. Because of resonance with the other energies present, many take on extra energies and can command those energies similar to their power over aether.

Specific Powers

Different types of greater elemental have complete command of different kinds of aether:

  • Caelum: kiiric yihi, bijalee, sonic aether.

  • Echirim: genesis, ikehua lyua pele, bailaohu jinghua, kazaddarean.

  • Epochal: temporal aether.

  • Great Ern: viridian aether, poarta, ashar.

  • Hariqana: lahab al’qalb and ikekhua lyua pele.

  • Khardantal’has: kazaddarean and bailaohu jinghua.

  • Logos: qeernariji, the bright, ma’dhahabi.

  • Nephesh: anumun, lunar aether.

  • Shadow-kin: true shadow

  • Taxatio: ashar, prasinofos, parfum de marais, nzwara murazvo.

  • Terra Anima: prasinofos, tykva vlast, hvittdogg, livadi, parfum de marais, hamasat al-sahra, hasken fure, tmakikan.

  • Yllorien: conflueverant

Weaknesses

Brown aether or mundane pollution harms them. Damage to that which they represent harms them.

Nations

Greater elementals are highly individualized, but there are some common themes amongst them:

  • Caelum: embody stretches of the sky and layers of the atmosphere.

  • Echirim: embody the continents of Shem, existing at the center of said continents.

  • Epochal: embody time periods, split between Ages on Shem.

  • Great Ern: embody natural laws.

  • Hariqana: embody great fires, volcanoes, and magma seas; some are very briefly lied, some are very ancient.

  • Khardantal’has: embody subterranean layers, tectonic plates, and mountains.

  • Logos: embody stars.

  • Nephesh: embody planets, moons, and asteroids.

  • Shadow-kin: embody large, dark places.

  • Taxatio: embody taxons of life.

  • Terra Anima: embody landforms such as forests, wetlands, grasslands, tundras, etc.

  • Yllorien: embody bodies of water.

Culture

Greater elementals are figures of elemental power so vast that they cannot be fathomed. Most exist in a slumber, only awakened when invoked, save for the most powerful - nephesh and logos - which actively control the flow of energies throughout their bodies (planets and stars). When awakened, they act to protect the aspects of nature they represent.

Esoterica

Greater elementals wield aether. Some of the more powerful are associated with other energies and can wield those as well. None may wield brown aether.

Religion

Greater elementals are worshiped as figures of nature, though some have other associations.

Gender

Greater elementals each have their own individual genders.

Outside View

Those who know of them worship them, fear them, or deny their existence. Most do not know of them.
