Variations

Different gladiatorial roles in the main arenas in Urayme and Furich Amol:
  • Andabata: those who fight blindfolded
  • Arbelas: intuitive fighters who use curved blades called arbelos.
  • Bestiarius: fights beasts.
  • Bustuarius: those who fight condemned men at the tombs.
  • Cestus: fist-fighters, using a cestus.
  • Crupelarius: heavily armed fighters, often foreigners.
  • Dimachaerus: two swords.
  • Eques: ride horses, armed with spear, sword, round shields (parma equestris), brimmed hlemet with two feathers, and light scale armor.
  • Essedarius: chariot fighters.
  • Gladiatrix: female gladiators.
  • Hoplomachus: wear leg-wrappings, loincloth, belt, greaves, manica, brimmed hat with feathers, gladius, small shield, throwing spear.
  • Laquearius: use lassos.
  • Murmillo: helmet with fish on the crest, manica, loincloth and belt, gaiter on right leg, thick wrappings on tops of feet, short greaves, gladius, and tall shield. Elites.
  • Parlmularius: spall shields (parmula) and two greaves.
  • Provocator: loincloth and belt, long left greave, manica lower right arm, visored helm with feathers, cardiophylax (breastplate), tall shield, and gladius. Elites.
  • Retiarius: trident and net, loincloth and belt, manica, galerus (shoulder), spiked dagger. Elites. Lesser retiarii are retiarius tunicatus, who wear tunics and are considered weak.
  • Rudiarius: those who have won freedom and been given a wooden sword.
  • Sagittarius: mounted archer.
  • Samnite: heavy armor, scutum, plumed helm, short gladius, greave on left leg.
  • Scissor: short swords with two blades, like a scissor without a hinge.
  • Scutarius: large shields (scutum).
  • Secutor: same as retiarius, but with helmet that covers the face save the eyes and smooth shield.
  • Veles: spear, sword, parma, light armor.
Other Roles

In the arenas, Editors sponsor gladiatorial fights. Lanista own groups of gladiators and trade them. Lorarius who whip reluctant animals or combatants. Paegniarius entertainer who does mock duels. Rudis, trainres. Venators hunt wild animals rather than fight them, perform tricks.
