With Mikhail Mao

Mao has considered attempting to master the Jewel with the following arrays (Magic Sense is always one of the eleven; at a Gifted Level this defaults to a very safe Detect Magic but can be refined to a very detailed Spell Analysis when needed):

Empath's Array
  • Green Eye (Envy)
  • A Sympathetic Ear (Love)
  • Scent of Fear (Nightmare)
  • The Sweet Taste of Victory (Pride/Sun)
  • Fire in the Belly (Passion/Fire)
  • A Feeling of Hope
  • A Feeling of Despair
  • A Sense for Celebration
  • Seeing Red (Hate)
  • A Sense of Compassion (Healing)

Masters the Jewel to give the bearer very powerful empathy.

GM's notes: Ice won't work. It's the absence of emotion. I'd use Healing (Compassion) to anchor it, since Empaths are the prime patronage of the Healer. Mastery in this way would give you 25+ empathy, plus the eleven senses.

Scholar's Array
  • The Eyes of a Child (Innocence/Hope)
  • The Ring of Truth
  • A Nose for Secrets (Silence)
  • Gut Feelings (Insight)
  • Impeccable Taste (Wealth)
  • Perfect Recall (Time)
  • Clear Senses (Vision)
  • Reflexive Memory (Skill)
  • Lateral Thinking (Connection)
  • Good Sense (Wisdom)

Masters the Jewel to make the bearer able to learn more quickly.

GM's notes: Innocence can be defined through Hope, but it's primarily considered part of Light. Hope or Light would work, though. The array I'd go with is Knowledge, Wisdom, Science (psychology), Vision, Insight, Silence (mysteries), Connection, Skill, Time, and Truth. Balance, Fate, Dream, Dragon, Wealth, Change, Story, Darkness, and Light are also acceptable spheres for this. Mastery with this intention would get you the ability to learn to a 10 any lore or science in an hour. 13 in a day. 16 in a week. Two weeks for 19. A month for 22. Three months for 25. With variations based on source material and so on. Skills would vary dramatically by skill sought, but would be on a similar scale.

Array of the Jewel
  • Prismatic Vision (Vision)
  • Emerald Audition (Music)
  • Jade Olfaction (Hunt)
  • Amber Gustation (Harvest)
  • Sapphire Tactition (Love)
  • Amethyst Equilibrioception (Luck)
  • Ruby Thermoception (Fire)
  • Pearl Proprioception (Peace)
  • Opal Nociception (Healing)
  • Agate Intuition (Knowledge)

Masters the Jewel to further enhance the bearer's natural senses, beyond the Jewel's normal enhancement per sense.

GM's notes: A few questions: does tactition mean touch/feel? If I understand it right, nociception is pain, right? Not sure you want to heighten that. It took me a moment to follow the jewel theme, but I like it now. This would expand the Jewel's bonuses to senses.

Manhunter Array
  • True Seeing (Truth)
  • Whispered Desires (Envy)
  • Smell of the Hunt
  • A Taste for Fear (Nightmare)
  • Gut Feelings (Insight)
  • Connection Sense
  • Relation Sense (Family)
  • Clairvoyance (Cosmos)
  • Inter-age Awareness (Time) (Substitute Chronurian Review when not in riven time.)
  • Clear Senses (Vision)

Masters the Jewel to make it easier to find people.

GM's notes: Envy would also be a good sphere for this, given the significance of the Hunter (Genfyllid) in their faith. I like what you've got here, though. I think it'd make you able to find any specific person, barring blocks of some kind, in any given Age at any time.

Ceremonial Array
  • Soulsight (Death) (to read True Names)
  • Perfect Pitch (Music) (to better understand vocal components)
  • A Nose for Alchemy (Knowledge) (to better understand material components)
  • Impeccable Taste (Wealth) (to compare the relative value of potential ingredients)
  • Sympathetic Tactition (Connection) (to identify circumstantial sympathies)
  • Intuit Symbolism (Wisdom) (to identify intrinsic sympathies)
  • Reflexive Memory (Skill) (for "borrowing" craft skills or performance skills)
  • Skillsight (Skill) (for finding skilled craftsmen or performers for use with Reflexive Memory)
  • Chronurian Review (Time) (for retroactively using Reflexive Memory, or learning the history of an ingredient)
  • Experimental Precognition (Fate) (for pre-testing specific ceremonies)

Masters the Jewel to give the bearer powerful ceremonial aptitude.

GM's notes: Your specific definitions are very useful here. This would work pretty well, and it would make all but the most powerful ceremonies a given. No more research rolls, except to fight gods or alter all of history, etc.

Obsidian Array

  • Green Eyed (Envy)
  • Needful Whispers (Famine)
  • Scent of Fear (Nightmare)
  • Taste of Decay (Destruction/Decay)
  • Touch of Madness (Chaos/Madness)
  • Antimagic Analysis (Void via Magic)
  • Deconstructive Analysis (Destruction/Entropy)
  • Sense Weakness (Despair/Weakness)
  • Sense Slavery (Despair/Slavery)
  • Sense Misfortune (Chaos/Misfortune)

GM's notes: I think this array would actually make it possible to sense every sub-aspect of the Obsidian Pantheon to some degree.

Array of Anarchy

  • See Potential (Change)
  • Blasphemous Whispers (Blasphemy)
  • Scent of Betrayal (Darkness)
  • Taste of Freedom (Hope)
  • Touch of Madness (Chaos)
  • Tactical Awareness (War)
  • Intuit Legality (Order)
  • A Sense for Passion (Fire)
  • Intuitive Oration (Story)
  • Sense Slavery (Despair)

GM's notes: This would... randomly break the rules of the Gift, allowing extra senses with every double-straight (2 4 6; 1 3 5; etc.). Maybe?

Array of the Mark of the Obsidian Obelisk
  • Soulsight (Death)
  • Whispered Connections
  • Stench of the Divine (Blasphemy)
  • Taste for Adventure (Story)
  • A Feel for Craftsmanship (Creation)
  • Clairvoyance (Cosmos)
  • Chronurian Review (Time)
  • Transplanar Awareness (Death)
  • Structural Analysis (Order)
  • Entropic Analysis (Destruction)

Note: this mastery does not create any connection between this and any other Gift. It merely gives the bearer the ideal 11 senses to examine the Mark.

GM's notes: Stacking Gifts is always fun, but stacking a Destruction Gift with non-Destruction Gifts is risky. It often results in the loss of the non-Destruction Gift. That said, if the Gift vs. Gift rolls work out, you could end up with the Jewel as part of your body/soul/mind/heart, and the power to destroy anything you can sense.
