Description At birth, all dragons look like large, pink worms. At maturity, dragons grow to be huge, multiheaded flying lizards with rich, red scales..
Procreation Dragons mate with each other only. Without intense supernatural interference, half-dragons are an impossibility. Dragons lay one to three eggs at a time. Upon hatching, a dragon immediately begins absorbing background energies. All dragon eggs are filled with pure, liquid draconic energy, which sustains the baby dragon upon hatching.
Esoterica Garnet dragons have accumulated great amounts of draconic power. Damaskian power, rubedian aether, earthpower, fate, arnum, rending, hegnh, and mana are all common, as is divine energy. Other powers vary.
Special Powers

Dragons gain new powers as they accumulate more energies. At each stage of growth, they gain a new ability, usually culminating with the twelfth ability when they accumulate . The usual progression of powers is as follows:

  • Level 1: Dragonfire breath weapon
  • Level 2: Immunity to heat
  • Level 3: Immunity to poisons
  • Level 4: Immunity to concussive forces
  • Level 5: Scales grant the bearer strength
  • Level 6: Wall of magma
  • Level 7: Regrow a head, once per year
  • Level 8: Appraise value
  • Level 9: Nightvision
  • Level 10: Powerdrain
  • Level 11: Summon drakes
  • Level 12: Controlling gaze

All dragons accumulate energies by absorbing them naturally from the area around them. As such, they must carefully cultivate their lairs to provide the right kinds of energies, hence they hoard appropriate objects.

Other common powers include summon or create smoke cloud, sulfuric acid rain, control winds, wall of force, dominating presence, and instill strength.

Alternate Forms Garnet dragons rarely take alternate forms, but if they do, it is a goblin, human, or animalman local to their domain.
Weaknesses Garnet dragons need vast amounts of food or they get sick easily.
Subspecies N/A
Culture Garnet dragons live inside volcanoes. They lay their eggs in the lava floes and guard them with their lives. They live in small tribes ruled by the strongest dragon, and they constantly challenge each other in sport and combat to see who is strongest. Every week ends with a contest to determine who will rule. This brutal lifestyle means they are often covered in scars and wounds, and these they bear as marks of pride. Any deemed too weak are given the worst tasks to fulfill, but they can redeem themselves, usually by going into exile and coming back stronger. These exiled dragons are called kren-raskath. When garnet dragons grow old, they eventually succumb to the younger as they get too weak to rule.
