Description Fragmented appear to be flayed mortals who have been ripped to pieces. Each pieces operates within a hive mind-like connection with the other pieces of the body. Some fragmented can be assimilated into other fragmented to create massive hives.
Corruption Fragmented must be intentionally created. No one is unintentionally corrupted into being one.
Esoterica Fragmented are beings of arnum and msawhat. Their bodily deconstruction prevents them from using many powers they had in life, though some survive in corrupted forms so long as they did not involve qi, the gates, or heavenly essences. Powerful fragmented made up of multiple individuals can sometimes gain access to new arts, the most common being
Special Powers Fragmented cause unease and fear in those who see them. Individual parts move about and can hover somewhat to move around. Usually, the head, hands, feet, arms, legs move about to feed other pieces, but the less mobile pieces usually rot away from lack of movement. Movement keeps them strong; the fragmented are always supernaturally strong. The head is always the center of power; the tongue causes extreme pain, the gaze causes intense nausea, and the scream causes intense confusion.
Necromancy An ancient ritual of torture can create a fragmented. It requires the victim be flayed alive, then ripped to pieces. If the victim dies before the fragmentation begins, the ritual fails. Msawhat and/or arnum of sigificant power (15) can create one, but the ritual must be used. The ritualist can then control it. To control one that one did not make, one must use significantly more power (24), because of the hive mind's resistance. Summoning one is not as difficult (17), but it's even easier to summon just one piece (7). Capturing one to draw power from it is as simple as taking one part of it, but one must defeat the hive mind to gain full access to its power.
Sending Over-powering a fragmented's hive mind is a necessary part of sending them, which is very difficult. The best way to do this is to soothe the pain of each part of the fragmented. If it is ever at peace, it will move on.
Weaknesses Iremia and light of serenity are especially effective, but qi, the gates, and heavenly essences also work.
Behavior Fragmented linger near where they were tortured and killed if they are not directed elsewhere. Their goal is to rip others to pieces. If their head is intact, they also chew and devour their victims, though their guts usually are not connected. They operate like a hive, some parts feeding others, all of them working together to hunt and kill. When they rip someone apart, they assimilate the victim into their cloud.
Dominion Culture In the Agikaani Dominion, the fragmented are part of the horrifying warrior/torturer class that has privileged status.
Other Dominions Fragmented are rare in other Dominions, but they are sometimes used among the Srisians and Durosians as examples to those they seek to torment, by the Raesians as shock troops, and by Fellwood to terrify others. In Sangarian, Pandemonian, Kaanian, and Wapek, they are used as punishments for some mortals. In the other Dominions, they are rarely heard of.
Mortal Interactions Fragmented are known only to those who live in places like Agikaan where the practice of creating them is known, and then they are only known as examples of how terrible certain figures are thay they would create such a thing.
Afterlife If the fragmented are sent, they spend some time in the in-between. If they were sent by purifying energies, they might move on more easily. The gates or other methods mean they are lost to the Grey Lands.
