| Esoterica | Fear gorta are beings of hunger, self-denial, fallow aether, poioumenon, and uafas. Like all faeries, they are users of The Tradition, a form of poioumenonic lore empowered by dream energies. They also use arnum, msawhat, vile energy, quaestus, thorn energy, imperium, entropy, autumn aether, rending, feirua, desperation, emotional resonance, and Damaskian powers. |
| The Tradition | Fear gorta use the following basic powers:
They walk without rest in times of famine, coming to places from seemingly out of nowhere. They beg for coin or food, and if given something, they grant good luck, but if they are refused, the fear gorta curses them. |
| Glamour | Fear forta can glamour themselves using certain ancient rhymes to appear like someone known to their targets. |
| Weaknesses | If they do not speak their True Name backwards into that same mirror in half a minute, fear gorta lose their True Names. They have a fortnight to recover it or they become targets of the Wild Hunt, corrupted into another kind of fey, or turn into a hag or boggin. Iron or steel will bind a fear gorta into powerlessness. An iron horseshoe nailed over a door will bar a fear gorta from entering a house. Most fear gorta detest tobacco smoke, and it can be used to stave them off. This is just a preference, however, and not a weakness. If they ever eat something, it will kill them. |
| National Culture | Fear forta live in small bands, wandering the world, seeking places of famine. When no famine exists, the fear gorta dwell on the edges of societies, drawn with hunger to the back alleys and dark corners of other nations. They have no leaders, no purpose, no society. If they are seen, they are feared as harbingers of famine. |
| Unkindly Culture | Only in the Unkindly Court are the fear gorta welcome, for their presence means pain and misery for the slaves and the enemies of the Court. |
| Other Courts | Fear gorta are killed on sight by the Seelie, Unseelie, Summer, and Winter Courts. Only the Kindly Court try to rehabilitate them into another nation. |
| Mortal Interactions | Fear gorta beg from mortals, curse or bless them. They are harbingers of famine in their realms. |
