If one takes a special risk, one may gain insight into the powers and flows of fortune. This form of gambling can be deadly (or worse), but the results can be remarkable. In order to be an esoteric gambler, one must have some luck already on their side. One must take an enormous risk. And one must come close to failing and then succeed. Once this is done, one must, by chance, absorb the incredible good fortune around them. This can be done either in a moment of relief (inadvertent meditation), celebration (inadvertent moment-capturing), or invocation (inadvertently sacrificing or dedicating to fortune or one of its representatives). But it must be by chance.

Once this is done, one will have a special sense for risks and rewards, and the ability to risk the esoteric, metaphysical, or supernatural. Betting one's soul. Gambling your ability to see, risking three years of your life. Any sort of supernatural bet or risk, with an attendant reward. Most esoteric gamblers choose a particiular idiom or skill in order to practice their gambling (poker or racing or any other game of chance).
