Goals:
-
Find Adventure and excitement
-
Recover my family and crew
-
And the MacBoons if time allows
Convictions:
- Treat friends with honor and loyalty. Treat enemies with ruthlessness and without mercy. Everyone else in between is subject to chance and whim.
-
Take what the dice give. Celebrate a good throw, but don't mourn a bad - always move forward. $
- I can't go through that again. $
Relationships:
- The Blue Falcons - They're my family now. Azure Jack's gone, and I'm glad for it, but I'll look out for all of them still.
- Roland Asher - I suppose I should have expected his reaction. Wait, I did. This will be a headache.
- Cornelia Asher - Lovely woman. The things she could do with numbers make my head spin.
- Dax Asher - He'll be a good successor to father one day.
- Leia Asher - I'm glad she's recovering. I've missed her.
- Lolet Coray - You never forget your first kiss. Most of two decades ago now, and I've met few women who could match her for spirit.
- Rosella Gray - Beautiful woman, and she knows it. I thought for a while she might be my queen, but now I suspect she only wanted the crown. It says something that I've never even been tempted to let her in on my little secret.
- Gia Tenbrooks - Wow. Just... wow. I would not have guessed that some of the things we did were possible without an archmage assisting. I'm not sure how much longer I could've kept up with her, but I'd give it a go if the winds ever blow her my way again.
- Clan MacBoon - It's good to have a few allies on the dull side of the law, and they're a fun bunch.
- Gerrick - The idiot's dead to me. $
- Obiefune - I'm still not clear on what his problem with me specifically is. I just have to placate him till this is over.
- Royce - A good lad, the kind that's too rare in the world. He'll make it through this. $
- Isidore - Childish, self-centered idiot. Still, I suppose his heart's in the right place $
- Auk - Poor guy. He didn't deserve that.
- Nahuel - Decent guy, for a huge, scary, flying lizard with some disturbing affinities. Solid. I'm glad he's on our side.
- Kentosane - Powerful, fun, I'm glad to have him with us.
- The Prophetess - As terrifying as she is tacky.
Davan's the happy-go-lucky sort. Very happy, and very lucky. About as faithful to the Father of Luck as a man can get without being vested, Davan lives most of his life at the whims of fortune and looks forward to every twist and turn, be it for better or worse. And his life has had plenty of both.
To the knowledge of most who've heard his name, his career began when Commodore Nukagh Urgan named him captain of the Flying Hare. To the knowledge of the members of his personal crew and Commodore Urgan, Davan's career began when he and Urgan, teenagers at the time, decided to throw their lives to the winds of chance. Together they performed a ritual Davan had made up himself, which was to climax in the two of them together speaking the name of the Father of Luck. In the end, Urgan balked, but Davan did not.
The two boys then proceeded to steal a skyboat from the trading fleet of their fathers' employer, and very nearly got away with it. Pursued by the trader's enforcers, Davan and Urgan sought refuge under the continent, where their lack of skill led to their skyboat being shattered against the hanging rocks. Urgan managed to cling desperately to the wreckage. Davan did not. He was thrown into a steeply sloping cave, where he rolled, bumped, slid, and flew towards the blue light of open sky. Reaching out desperately for something to hold onto, he briefly slowed his fall by grabbing on to the hilt of a Sword embedded in the remarkably preserved body of a young woman. Then the Sword was free and he was falling once more, with nothing beneath him but the clouds.
Davan was sure his luck had turned for the last time when he was caught by a freakishly powerful updraft, and the next thing he knew he was hurtling between the ships of his persuers. Too busy staring, to a man the trader's pilots were unable to adjust for the sudden change in the winds. Most ran their ships into the rocks, save one whose last sight was a befuddled Davan levelling a Gifted sword at his chest. Davan took the wheel, rescued the drifting Urgan, and so obtained his first real ship.
Davan soon attracted a skilled crew, and the Blue Falcons began to make a name for themselves. It was around the time that the Falcon's gained their third fully crewed ship that Davan realized that he was spending most of his time cooridinating and far too little enjoying himself, which is what the reeving was supposed to be about. So, he did the only reasonable thing that came to mind: He faked his death, leaving the Falcon's in Urgan's hands. A quick change of name, face, and identity later and he was merely the Captain of the Flying Hare, with most of his original crew sailing under his orders.
And so it went for several years. The Falcons reeved and, in part due to the Sword that Davan still carried, prospered. The next turn in Davan's luck came when Davan found himself involved in a ship to ship battle beneath the land with a Srissian Agent. In one of his traditionally mindless gambits, Davan threw himself over the side of the Hare and onto the Srissian craft. The Sword turned on him, for the second time that day, and he found the ship and himself falling into the clouds where he was captured and enslaved by the beings who dwelt there. The agent made his way into the cloud-walkers' good graces where he claimed the Sword of Luck and saw to it that Davan became his own personal slave. After trying for seven years, Davan finally managed to steal his Sword back and escape the clouds with the help of a mysterious Grinning Man. Above the clouds once more, he learned that the crew of the Flying Hare had tried to follow him, and so he spent the next two years hunting each of them down and bringing them back aboard his new ship.
Davan is a trickster and a gambler, ruled primarily by an often wry sense of humor and plans layed out by the flip of a coin. His ideals are freedom and the persuit of pleasure, and the sky, his home, represents both to him. His willingness to do anything for his crew and friends is matched by his utter disregard for the wellbeing of anyone not crew or friend.
Aside from the Gifted Sword, Davan's most treasured possession is a coin taken from the moneychest of a luck faithful merchant. Made of gold and roughly two inches in diameter, one side is embossed with the image of a hissing cat curled around a stylized letter 'L', the other with a cat lounging atop a stylized 'E'. He loves the coin both as an icon of his god and as a symbol of the idea that good luck and bad are two sides of the same coin, that to love and seek after one, you have to love and seek the other, an idea he feels even many faithful forget as they search for paths to pure good luck.
