Description Crateruses are mostly hairless with a few tufts on the tops of their heads. Their skin is palest grey to dark grey. Their frames are usually thin, though they can gain weight like other demihumans. They have long fingers and thin, elongated heads. They wear very little clothing.
Procreation With each other, it follows the mother. With other demihumans, humans, and pseudohumans, it varies, but mixed nations are very rare.
Esoterica Crateruses are beings of lunar aether and mashoaab. They also commonly use astral aether, Damaskian energies, gebvel, the gates, mystery, fortune, brumal aether, infernum, shadow, qi, hegnh, poioumenon, mana, and flux.
Accumulation A craterus can phase through stone to accumulate metals and convert them to mashoaab and lunar aether. They create more lunar aether than mashoaab, and thus, must expel some of the lunar aether when they are over-full. They usually release this into the atmosphere by twisting their hands in the air, or give it to another craterus by touching their heads (usually children, the sick, disabled, or elderly). At the age of about 150, they stop needing to cycle through lunar aether and can keep what they accumulate, because their capacity has become unfillable. At this point, they begin to only release their lunar aether in special ceremonies.
Special Powers Crateruses can see in low light and can survive without air or air pressure. They can use their accumulated lunar aether in times of danger to deflect other energies.
Weaknesses Brown aether can harm them. Intense sunlight or solar aether is unpleasant for them.
Culture

Craterus societies are based around a cycle of scarcity to excess. They live in tribes in deep craters on the moons. They build communities in fissures along the lower reaches of the crater, building villages in the sides of the cliffs. These villages gather resources throughout the year, with ebbs and flows of when resources are available. Because of the shifting nature of lunar aether, the amount they produce from metals they consume varies. During the low times, the tribe bands together. During high times, they trade and exchange with others.

Their villages are led by a council of elders. These elders are selected from those who have reached their full accumulative capacity, elected by the other elders. There are three recognized genders in craterus society: male, female, and bigender. An elder on the council can be any gender, but most are bigender. Males tend to be workers in the mines and quarries, while females tend to be teachers, caretakers, and artists. Crossover is not unheard of, though, nor discouraged.

Children in craterus society are raised by their extended families. Though they usually know their mothers, within families, uncles, fathers, and brothers tend to blend together in their roles and few care who is their biological father. They go to school around the age of nine, graduating by the age of 21. They are considered adults at 19, however. All crateruses take on at least three roles in the community over the course of their lifetimes, usually changing occupations during a low period. Romantic partnerships always consist of at least three people of any gender; courtship is very casual.

Crateruses have very close communities, and in low times, they band together to share resources. During this time, those with maximum capacity for accumulation are expected to share as much as they can, while those who have less accumulative capacity or are sick, disabled, or children are expected to make up for their needs in other ways, usually contributing through other forms of service or work, though this can include entertainments, going to school, or sharing space. During high times, everyone has what they need and the excess is traded off for the rest of the community.
