| Description | Corrigans appear to be feminine humanoid figures wearing long white robes with dead flowers in their hair. At night or at dusk, they appear to have golden hair and smooth skin; during the day they have white hair and wrinkled skin. They stand about 4-5.5' tall. They have red eyes which flare light. |
| Procreation | Corrigans reproduce sexually, usually producing changelings, when they sleep with their victims. They create new corrigans by corrupting stolen children. |
| Esoterica | Corrigans are beings of pravum, poioumenon, and uafas. Like all faeries, they are users of The Tradition, a form of poioumenonic lore empowered by dream energies. They also use pure msawhat, vile energy, Raesian energy, blood energy, ichor, choler and black bile, desperation energy, self-denial, arnum, sin, thorn energy, despair resonance, imperium, quaestus, shadow, cacophony, autumn aether, fallow aether, winter aether, brumal aether, parasitic energy, currents aether, winds aether, lunar aether, mana, mystery, the gates, phlegm, psionics, waste, viscera, tears, symbolism, and spirits. |
| The Tradition | Corrigans use these basic fey powers:
Other:
Corrigans dance in groups around fountains to foul the water and poison children. They comb their hair with combs made from children's bones; these combs make their hair shine with a light that mesmerizes men. Their singing sends shivers down mortals' spines. They are incredibly fast. If there is a well or a fountain within 13 miles of the lair of the corrigans, they can access the well or fountain without getting on land during a full moon, giving them easy access to communities where they seek their prey. Nine corrigans together can predict the future if they join hands and dance in a circle while soaking wet under the full moon. |
| Glamour | Corrigans can glamour themselves using certain ancient rhymes, turning themselves into horrifying images to scare away holy ones. |
| Weaknesses | If they do not speak their True Name backwards into that same mirror in half a minute, corrigans lose their True Names. They have a fortnight to recover it or they become targets of the Wild Hunt, corrupted into another kind of fey, or turn into a hag or boggin. Iron or steel will bind a corrigan into powerlessness. An iron horseshoe nailed over a door will bar a corrigan from entering a house. Most corrigans detest tobacco smoke, and it can be used to stave them off. This is just a preference, however, and not a weakness. Qi harms them. They cannot list all the days of the week, because one day is anathema to them. They hate being seen during the day. |
| National Culture | Corrigans live in groups of nine. Each group, called a cercle, works together to lure in male mortals or other fey in order to draw them down into their underwater homes, drown them, and eat them, or to stalk mortals with children, whom they steal and eat as well. They loathe the religions of others, worshipping only their Dweller in the Wells. They consider the Dweller to be the only male allowed in their culture. Those corrigans who are seen as too masculine are killed, their bodies thrown into wells. If a corrigan has a child after sleeping with one of her victims, she will give the child a mortal Name and trade it with a mortal or another fey child, taking the other home to eat. They only create new corrigans from children they steal on Samhain, during which time they all ride out to lurk near graves and tombs, in dark alleys, or other shadowy places near where people live. Corrigan children are usually left to fend for themselves, being abused and neglected by their mothers. If they survive long enough, they must kill and replace a member of the cercle or find others to form their own cercle with. Corrigans die violently often, so there are often openings. Corrigan cercles keep their territories very closely and do not share very well. Other cerles will sometimes war with them over better territory. Because of this, there are many shifting alliances among corrigans. The most powerful cercles end up controlling many territories and commanding the nation, but it is never far from civil war. Each full moon, they go to the fountains and wells of the nearby towns, dance around them, and lure in men to kill and eat. If they meet an unwed woman with children, they will also kill her. They despise religious leaders and target them as well. Legends say that corrigans keep treasures. In reality, they often have many objects left by their victims that have worth. They usually sell or trade these, but they often end up with more than they can get rid of easily. Because of this, those who seek treasure sometimes try to find their lairs. They enjoy tricking and killing these people. |
| Winter Culture | The most powerful corrigan cercles are assimilated into the Winter Court ruling class, and the subject cercles are often peasant classes. They pay tribute to the Winter Queen and vie for position in the Court against the froskies and other nations. Corrigans view themselves as the rightful rulers of the Winter Court and often work to subvert the Winter Queen's power, but ultimately, they do not have the national cohesion to pose a true threat. |
| Other Courts | Corrigans are feared and hated in the Seelie and Summer Courts; they are usually captured, tried, and killed for their crimes of child murder and cannibalism. Some few defend themselves well enough to be allowed to convert to another nation, if they are desperate enough. In the Kindly Court, they are given the chance to convert; if they refuse, they are refused or killed. The Unkindly Court welcomes them, and the Unseelie Court will let them buy their way in. |
| Mortal Interactions | Corrigans kill and eat mortals, especially children. They also sometimes steal mortal children to convert to corrigans. Their singing terrifies mortals. |
