Description At birth, all dragons look like large, pink worms. At maturity, dragons grow to be two-legged serpents with large, batlike wings. They have a strong stench that exudes from their underwing glands. Their heads are a cross between a bull and a lion, and their skin is a rich, deep copper tone.
Procreation Dragons mate with each other only. Without intense supernatural interference, half-dragons are an impossibility. Dragons lay one to three eggs at a time. Upon hatching, a dragon immediately begins absorbing background energies. All dragon eggs are filled with pure, liquid draconic energy, which sustains the baby dragon upon hatching.
Esoterica Copper dragons accumulate vast amounts of the Law and hegnh. Heavenly light, complexity, possibility, dumaqu, Foundation, gebvel, mashoaab, symbolism, and nommic energy are all common. Divine energies are very common. Unholy powers are impossible.
Special Powers

Dragons gain new powers as they accumulate more energies. At each stage of growth, they gain a new ability, usually culminating with the twelfth ability when they accumulate . The usual progression of powers is as follows:

  • Level 1: Hegnhic ray breath weapon
  • Level 2: Immunity to confusion
  • Level 3: Immunity to control
  • Level 4: Immunity to paralysis
  • Level 5: Scale grants bearer an understanding of systems
  • Level 6: Impenetrable barrier
  • Level 7: Rectify moderate wrong, once per year
  • Level 8: Create moderate object
  • Level 9: Sense flaws
  • Level 10: Bind person
  • Level 11: Summon iussum
  • Level 12: Simplify situation

All dragons accumulate energies by absorbing them naturally from the area around them. As such, they must carefully cultivate their lairs to provide the right kinds of energies, hence they hoard appropriate objects.

Other common powers include create minor system, control person, shape structure, and instill understanding.

Alternate Forms Copper dragons sometimes take the form of a thandoer.
Weaknesses Entropy hurts them.
Subspecies Systemic dragons are dragons who have absorbed more Law than most. They are vectors of incredible force that even the divines fear them. They breathe a wave of binding force, have the ability to control major systems (including Divine energies), and are anathema to blasphemous energies.
Culture

Copper dragons lay their eggs in rocky hollows in barren mountain ranges. Up to four dragons help raise the young as members of a small community led by an elected leader. The leaders of copper dragon communities are elected every millennium and have complete legal authority over the area.

Copper dragons make alliances that they adhere to strictly with local communities, purchasing services and goods from them to build their hoards and tend their needs.

As youth, copper dragons are trained in a small number of skills that will serve their community based on their aptitudes. At maturity, they have the choice of continuing study for a millennium, taking up new skills, or taking up their tasks in the community. Some few choose to leave the community for many different reasons. These are called kren-ochaam, and they sometimes join other communities or start their own.

Every twelve years, copper dragons have a great meeting of communities in their homeland, where they exchange goods, services, and ideas.

In old age, copper dragons begin planning for their deaths, and when the time comes, a very strict ceremony is held to divvy up their energies and belongings.
