A gondal who was raised in Aeslaw by cornucopians, Copernicus learned about the faith of the Scales from a wandering Walker of the Path. He won a small contest and earned a one-way trip to the monastery in Genesis. Seeing no opportunities for himself in Aeslaw, he took the trip. Once there, he was awed by the World Tree and moved to join the faith. Within a decade, he was a full fledged monk. Not too long afterward, he was called to the Abbott's offices and told that he and two others were to go to the Pit and discern its true nature.
