Description Checkmates start in pawn phase. During this phase, they appear to be regular humans of any shape, size, or hue. As they grow and gain experiences, however, they become less and less human, eventually becoming unique, strange, and powerful beings.
Procreation With each other for more pawns.
Magic One in five have heart or soul magic. Mind and body magic are possible. Void is possible. Faith is not uncommon.
Special Powers Checkmates absorb energies as they experience new things. The more energy they absorb, the more they gain attributes based on that energy. Though they can become almost anything, there are five common secondary phases they enter: knight (combative), rook (defensive), bishop (instructive), queen (dominant), king (authoritative).
Weaknesses A lack of experience will make them wither away.
Culture Every checkmate is different, so there is no single way for them to live. They tend to think longterm and plan their lives according to one of the commonest paths, but some strike out into new territories.
