Brownstone are the paladins of the Church of Equality. They are sworn to aid the oppressed wherever they find them. As such, besides being trained combatants, squires are also expected to "major" and "minor" in one each of the following: rhetoric, political science, psychology, sociology, public relations, accounting, financing/economics, infrastructure engineering/management, architecture, medicine, public health, statistics, guerilla tactics, business, law, debate, education, military science, magic, anthropology, forensic science, church lore (choose one religion).
Among other skills, commonly used faith powers among Brownstone include:
--Shadow of the Dragon (Dif: ##): the agent casts a full-sized adult Brownstone Dragon shadow with all attendant benefits.
--Repel Oppressors (Dif:##): Used most often to defend picket lines from storm-troopers and over-zealous watchmen, the agent uses his will plus some bonus from the faith to create a barrier that the targets must roll vs. WIL to cross.
--The People's Vox (Dif: ##): named for the more mundane occurrence which simply uses the crowd's repetition of a speaker's words to amplify them, this power lets the speaker be amplified without the necessity of the crowd's repetition.
--Strengthen the People (Dif: ##): The agent grants immunity to stun to those around him. Used mostly for picket lines and marches in retreat from the watchmen and storm-troopers using brutal crowd-suppression.
--Mark of Shame (Dif: ##): The agent may mark the soul of a particularly brutal or thuggish oppressor, so that any reporters, bards, Theresan agents, priests and paladins of the Alabaster shield or the Platinum Rose, and Brownstone agents can instantly identify who he is and what he did. For example, if a sadistic watchman were to use the Darkness spell Torture on a retreating protestor to incapacitate them and then continue to use it long after they had surrendered to arrest and were on the ground unable to act, and were then marked by this power, he would never be able to go near another temple of any good god again without everyone there knowing what he did, and every reporter he talked to would know him instantly for it.
--Mark of the Shield (Dif: ##): The opposite of the Mark of Shame, this power lets an agent mark a defender of the oppressed. It is typically used as an honor for those deserving of some recognition for their righteous efforts to bring equity and dignity to those in need.
--Bestow dignity (Dif: ##): More practical than it sounds, it is for replicating the effects of a good hot shower, a warm meal, a shave and haircut, a load of laundry, or some other amenity of basic dignity that a homeless person or a slave might feel they were missing.
--The Dragon's Roar (Dif: ##): An agent can alert all other Brownstone agents within a five mile radius to something that needs their attention. The agent gets one sentence to describe the call for backup that the other agents receive (eg: "flood in progress on south bank of Marraddon river outside the Black Gorge dam, six families stranded," etc).*
--Stabilize (Dif: ##): The agent may halt the deteriorating condition of someone who was wounded by an act of oppression (eg: a protester struck by a watchman's bullet). This effect stops the wound from getting any worse, and grants the target ten minutes protection from death so they can get him to a real doctor or healer.
*Because of the agreement between the Listener and Tamballa concerning Theresan agents inside Brownstone, all Theresan agents within that radius also get the call for help, and so does the Newsfinder General.
