Esoterica Like all faeries, they are users of The Tradition, a form of poioumenonic lore empowered by dream energies.
The Tradition

Bluecaps have these basic faerie powers:

  • Bluecaps can vanish and become insubstantial by speaking their True Name into a reflective surface.
  • A circle of salt will protect a bluecap from supernatural powers for as long as it goes undisturbed.

Other:

  • A bluecap can sense rich deposits underground by listening to the sound of air moving through the caves.
  • If a bluecap is touching stone or earth, they can sense cave-ins attached to that tectonic plate.
  • Bluecaps can push heavy rocks or tubs of coal or other minerals with little effort.
  • They can move through solid matter if they are not glamoured.
  • They only need to eat once every month.
  • If they tie a trinket of someone around one of their fingers (while glamoured), they can teleport that person once a day.
Glamour Bluecaps can glamour themselves using certain ancient rhymes, but only to forms as big as they are.
Weaknesses If they do not speak their True Name backwards into that same reflective surface in half a minute, bluecaps lose their True Names. They have a fortnight to recover it or they become targets of the Wild Hunt, corrupted into another kind of fey, or turn into a hag or boggin. Most bluecaps detest tobacco smoke, and it can be used to stave them off. This is just a preference, however, and not a weakness. Cacophonic energies harm them.
National Culture

Bluecaps live in vast, interconnected clans led by the eldest among them, the one connected to the most other bluecaps. They live in caves and mines, occasionally taking strands of hair from miners or lost animals. If none are near them, they flicker out into the wilds on the surface to find creatures to feed from; they need very little to live off of for long periods of time. They usually form symbiotic relationships with miners of other fey nations or Courts, making a deal to lead them to rich veins, warn them of cave-ins, and help them move heavy loads in exchange for hairs, coinage, and space. They use the coinage to purchase materials to build beautiful matrices deep in the caves. When outraged, they will slash the rope-traces of tubs of coal or other minerals out of spite. Bluecaps are fully formed when born, gaining their Names almost immediately unless something intervenes or an intentional effort is made not to share. Gender is unknown, though some take a liking to certain glamours which have some gender-association to other nations. Their lives are focused on creating works of beauty in their matrices and finding food.

Court Culture Bluecaps have no base court.
Other Courts Bluecaps make deals with other courts to help them in their mines. Only the Unkindly Court ever tries to harm them; redcaps hate them. Knockers view bluecaps with respect, though they often find themselves competing for territory and contracts. Occasionally, an Unseelie or Winter Court lord will try to enslave them, but this rarely works out.
Mortal Interactions Bluecaps make the same deals with fey miners as they do mortal miners.
