The legend of the first barka herd is that it came to Dabusen from across the Palhuric Ocean, lead by an elven trickster that taught them cunning. It is said that they were created by six great Divines that granted them wisdom, and that these Divines were ancient elven Divines. As such, barkas consider themselves descended of elves. Indeed, their Manifest claims to have once been a rsi, which is the evolved form of the Pallanian elves.

Barkas often live in small herds, but some are solitary figures that seek wisdom on their own. They are welcoming and trusting, but wise enough to be cautious. They live all across southern Dabusen and southern Taggarus.

Upon arrival in Dabusen, the Barka Manifest sought to cross a great river. The river however was swarmed with crocodiles, so the Manifest called to one, the largest of the crocodiles, and told him that there was to be a great feast held by the local lord, and that she needed to get a count of how many crocodiles would be attending. She bid the crocodiles line up across the river, and she lightly leapt one to the other, counting as she went. Upon reaching the other side, she thanked them and bid them farewell. Shortly thereafter, an angry prince accosted her, not knowing that she had been given permission to bring her people to his realm by a greater lord, and he demanded she leave. Instead, she tricked him into giving her gold and sent bees after him.
