| Description | A barka is a small, 3' centauroid with the lower body of a chevrotain and the upper body of an elf. Their fur is usually brown, red-brown, black, yellow, or white, and their hair is usually pale grey. Their eyes are night black like those of a chevrotain. Spot and stripe patterns are common on their lower bodies. Their rear quarters are slightly elevated, giving them great speed, and their backs are often arched downward due to muscular shoulders. Some Dabusenese barkas have small upper tusks. They have short legs and cottonball tails. Taggaran barkas are usually larger than Dabusenese barkas. |

They can speak to animals, and they are especially fond of pythons, whom they wear as protections.. Barkas can swim underwater for extended periods of time without coming up for air. Their backs are very strong and tough, tougher than most of the rest of their bodies. They have a special yell that alerts all within range of danger and creates and instinctive flight response even in the staunchest. Barkas can also, if they lose their tempers, beat the ground with their hooves and create minor rain storms. |

| Culture | Barkas rub chins when they greet. The legend of the first barka herd is that it came to Dabusen from across the Palhuric Ocean, lead by an elven trickster that taught them cunning. It is said that they were created by six great Divines that granted them wisdom, and that these Divines were ancient elven Divines. As such, barkas consider themselves descended of elves. Indeed, their Manifest claims to have once been a rsi, which is the evolved form of the Pallanian elves. Barkas often live in small herds, but some are solitary figures that seek wisdom on their own. They are welcoming and trusting, but wise enough to be cautious. They live all across southern Dabusen and southern Taggarus. |
