A barghest is a huge black dog that is an omen of impending death, only seen at night. Roughly the size of a calf, moving silently but for the clicking of their claws. To see one is to feel intense despair. Barghests can appear to anyone they chose, remaining unseeable to others near their intended target.

Descendents of the Jericho family, however, are immune to the barghest, due to a favor an ancient Jericho once did for the Queen of Faeries.
