Description Azizas are 3-5' tall hairy humanoids. Some have a single leg, others are bipedal.
Procreation Azizas reproduce sexually with each other, with other fey, and with mortals.
Esoterica Azizas are beings of euphony, poioumenon, and dream energy. Like all faeries, they are users of The Tradition, a form of poioumenonic lore empowered by dream energies. They also use radiance, mijjit, long path, greenlight aether, bestial aether, emotional resonance, euskepsia, euergasia, waarheid, glory, liberation power, some forms of heavenly light, iremia, dumaqu, Foundation, b'qar, qi, fortune, symbolism, and spirits.
The Tradition

Azizas have these basic fey powers:

  • Azizas can vanish and become insubstantial by speaking their True Name into a mirror.
  • A circle of salt will protect an aziza from supernatural powers for as long as it goes undisturbed.
  • Any aziza being may summon a faeriesteed by whistling three special notes.

Azizas can drum on their bellies to entrance others. Their drumming on anything will influence anyone else playing music near them. Their singing will inspire others, giving them deep knowledge of self, soul, or resource. Their voices are always melodious, and they can use them to charm fire, water, and air. They can improve the senses of those who are in their forests by giving them an amulet made from a dried leaf, a drop of sweat, and a hummed melody.

Glamour Azizas can glamour themselves using certain ancient rhymes to make themselves blend into the forest.
Weaknesses If they do not speak their True Name backwards into that same mirror in half a minute, azizas lose their True Names. They have a fortnight to recover it or they become targets of the Wild Hunt, corrupted into another kind of fey, or turn into a hag or boggin. Iron or steel will bind an aziza into powerlessness. An iron horseshoe nailed over a door will bar an aziza from entering a house. Cacophony harms them.
National Culture

Azizas live in sprawling tribes that thrive in forests, dwelling in cotton-silk trees and anthills. Each tribe is led by a council of elders called agla. These elders are elected by the tribe, which is split into different groups based on what role they have in the tribe: drummers, singers, hunters, weavers, or caretakers. Everyone shares in one of these duties, though most have other roles as well. Those few who only take up these roles are the leaders of those roles, the best at them.

In an aziza tribe, the caretakers raise the children until they are about nine years old, at which time, they begin learning the various important duties of the tribe. By the age of twelve, they usually have found other roles or work they also want to pursue. Some common ones include drum maker, tool maker, artist, and dyer. At the age of 25, children become adults and their care is their own affair, not that of the caretakers. However, communal care is part of the duty of every aziza.

When another fey or a mortal enters their forest, the aziza tribes monitor them carefully. If they do no harm to the forest and hunt respectfully, they are left alone. If they are in need, they are aided. If they ask for help, they are aided. If they harm the forest or hunt disrespectfully, the aziza confuse and bewilder them, driving them out.

They love to smoke pipes and will trade all manner of objects for fresh tobacco or other things to smoke.

The heart of aziza culture is rhythm. They attune themselves to the forest's rhythms, the seasonal rhythms, the animals' rhythms, their own rhythms. This is the core of their spiritual teachings as well. To drum one's own belly is common; to drum the belly of another is an intimate act.

Kindly Culture The aziza tribes elect a "queen" to represent them to the Kindly Court every hundred years. They do not interact much outside of their forests, but support the Kindly Court as they can. They send a queen to represent their tribes so that they can be informed of trouble and have some small influence with Court politics, but few engage much with other nations of the Court unless one visits them.
Other Courts Azizas are welcomed as protectors of forests in the Summer Court. In the Seelie Court, they are viewed as peasants but allowed to join. Among the Winter Court, they must prove themselves loyal to the Court first. The Unseelie enslave them; the Unkindly kills them on sight.
Mortal Interactions When a mortal enters their forest, the aziza tribes monitor them carefully. If they do no harm to the forest and hunt respectfully, they are left alone. If they are in need, they are aided. If they ask for help, they are aided. If they harm the forest or hunt disrespectfully, the aziza confuse and bewilder them, driving them out.
