| Procreation | Avalonians reproduce sexually with other Avalonians, other fey, vaettir, and mortals. |
| Esoterica | Avalonians are beings of qi, light of vibrance, poioumenon, and dream energy. Like all faeries, they are users of The Tradition, a form of poioumenonic lore empowered by dream energies. They also use other heavenly lights, radiant energies, hegnhic energies, mijjit, yahas, dumaqu, Foundation, white tiger aether, greenlight aether, currents aether, possibility, winds aether, pattern aether, nommos, symbolism, and spirits. |
| The Tradition | Avalonians have these basic fey powers:
Avalonians have three main powers: the power to heal, the power to craft metals, and the power to imbue fecundity into the very soil. The first power costs them their strength to varying degrees. The second power costs them their sight to varying degrees. The third power costs them their hearts to varying degrees. An Avalonian that uses her power to heal must decide how much strength she will use. If she uses all of her strength, she can resurrect the dead. If she uses but a little, she can heal minor wounds easily. An Avalonian who shapes metals will render themselves blind to create a tool, weapon, or statue of unsurpassing beauty, but a little temporary blurring will make common tools, weapons, or other metallic objects with ease. If she uses her power to make the soil fecund, she will draw emotion. The larger the area, the more emotion is required. Avalonians working together can perform each of these powers at even greater scale: resurrecting the ancient dead, creating metal objects of legendary power, or permanently altering a landscape to fertility. The latter is how they made their island into a place that constantly produces fruit of its own accord. They also have the power to collective summon the mists that protect their island. Avalonians are said to live forever, but this is untrue: they reincarnate in a provable manner. An Avalonain buried in their home island of Avalon will reincarnate, rising from their own body. |
| Glamour | Most faeries can glamour themselves using certain ancient rhymes. Avalonian use their glamouring powers to appear mortal when needed. |
| Weaknesses | If they do not speak their True Name backwards into that same mirror in half a minute, Avalonians lose their True Names. They have a fortnight to recover it or they become targets of the Wild Hunt, corrupted into another kind of fey, or turn into a hag or boggin. Iron or steel will bind an Avalonian into powerlessness. An iron horseshoe nailed over a door will bar an Avalonian from entering a house. Most Avalonians detest tobacco smoke, and it can be used to stave them off. This is just a preference, however, and not a weakness. Msawhat harms them. |
| National Culture | Avalonians live on islands tended with their powers so that no cultivation nor seed is ever needed. Plants and animals grow freely there. Their smiths make objects of legend, their healers restore the worst of wounds. Their trees yield legendary fruits on the Fortunate Isle, Avalon, Ynys Afallon, Ynys Affalach, the Isle of Apples. Many well-loved figures from many nations are buried there with the hopes of their eventual resurrection, though the Avalonians never say this will happen; they allow it out of sympathy for their grief of others. They provide a special black boat for these to arrive on. On the island grows the herb perlysiau, silver grapes, the grains grawn byw, and the apples of Avalon, two powerful plants that have the energies of life within them. These are famous the world over, but their rarity makes them precious and only the Nine Sisters may dole them out. The island is run by the Nine Sisters, titles held by ancient Avalonians elected to the position by the communities on the island. Each community is led by an elder elected by the community, and from them is selected the Nine Sisters. The Nine Sisters live in a castell at the heart of the island that is imbued with incredible powers by many Ages of mystic arts from the greatest mystics among the Avalonians. The Nine Sisters make the laws of the island and enforce them with their gwarchodwr arian, a force of elite guards who are rarely needed. To be a gwarchodwr arian, one must train for 500 years. The Nine Sisters are stewards of the land and bounty of the island and ensure all have what they need; they also dictate the rules of trade with outsiders. Communities raise children together, sending them to school once they are about 12. They learn and grow and become adults at 25, at which time they are welcomed into the community with a celebration. Births are also celebrated by the whole community. Gender is recognized but not enforced. Sex between Avalonians is a sacred practice, but Avalonians do not often commit to one another. Sex is not casual but relationships are. No Avalonian needs to grow crops or plant trees. It happens on the island without any prompting. The most common crafts are esoterica, smithing, trading, picking, and harvesting. It is said that Morgane le Fey has taken refuge on the island; it is said the island is home to the Lady in the Lake. The Avalonians never confirm or deny it. The island is surrounded by thick mists that keep anyone from reaching the island without the Avalonians' permission. The voyage there from the mainland is very long for those who are not invited. |
| Kindly Culture | The Avalonians elect a separate leader to the Court Council of the Kindly Court, usually their Manifest, the Lady of Avalon, Bywyd. Though the Avalonians number few, they are well respected among the Kindly nations. Their powers and generosity are celebrated by all, and their national culture is respected. |
| Other Courts | Avalonians are wanted by the other Courts for their powers and access to powers of life--and their legendary smithing skills. The Unseelie enslave them. The Winter Court usually enslaves them, but if an Avalonian is rogue, they can be accpeted into the Court. The Summer and Seelie Courts welcome them, though in the latter, their generosity is often taken advantage of. The Unkindly Court enslaves and kills them. |
| Mortal Interactions | Avalonians allow mortals to come to their island if the need is great. They have a custom of allowing other nations to bury their beloved dead on the Avalon. They sometimes trade with mortal nations, but usually, they remain hidden. |
