Arsul_T actually, before evening can I go to a fate church?
Dionysus Yes.
Arsul_T I'd like to talk to a priest there about my prophecy
Arsul_T prophecies?
Dionysus When you arrive, a priest meets you, "Welcome child. You have questions."
Arsul_T "Yes. I-- Well it's sort of strange."
Dionysus "Ask, my son."
Arsul_T "I'm sick and ever since it started I've had dreams and-- I /know/ things."
Arsul_T "Can you still talk with your god?"
Dionysus "It is difficult, but yes, a little. Tell me of your dreams."
- Arsul_T frowns. "But he is still answering prayers?"
Dionysus "Tell me of your dreams, sir."
Arsul_T "Good." and he'll launch into the descriptions of the dreams
Dionysus He frowns & listens. "It is hard to say if they are symbolic, true visions of what is to be, or both."
Arsul_T "They will happen."
Arsul_T he believes that
Dionysus The man nods, "Yes, but will they happen as you saw them? Or do they represent something more?"
- Arsul_T frowns. "That I don't know. But these are powerful people I think. They'll have repurcussions elsewhere."
Dionysus He nods. "That is possible. The three faced judge could well be the Father of Balance himself. That alone says much."
- Arsul_T frowns. "What do I do with them?"
Dionysus "Seek understanding, if you would. Tell others, if you would. Nothing, if you would. It is up to you."
Arsul_T "I can't do nothing. But I don't know how to help it either." he shakes his head alittle. "Thank you father."
Arsul_T he rises
Dionysus The priest nods, "May the Father smile upon you, sir."
- Arsul_T frowns but nods as he leaves
Arsul_T To dionysus as they leave, "That was near useless. I should've learned earlier."
- Dionysus shrugs, "Well, where can we go to try to learn?"
Arsul_T "He said seek understanding, but from who? Gods are missing."
Dionysus "Perhaps if we go to a library? I can read for you... If you get a premonition about a book..."
Arsul_T "A book? We can try. Where do we start? Do gods and Immortals have birth registries?" he says dryly
Dionysus He laughs, "I don't know. Let's ask a librarian."
- Arsul_T laughs and nods. "Lead the way."
Dionysus The librarian considers, "The prophecy section might work, or perhaps the section below it--for interpreting dreams & visions?"
Arsul_T "You have a prophecy section?"
Arsul_T he asks, incredulous
Dionysus "They're mostly false prophecies, sir. Mad claims & trickery. But we keep all sorts of books here."
- Arsul_T frowns. "We'll start there. Do you have a section for true prophecies?" he asks grinning slightly
Dionysus The librarian chuckles, "I am afraid they're all mixed in together."
Arsul_T "Thought so."
- Arsul_T picks one at random when we're in front of the shelf and hands it to Dionysus after opening it to a random page
Dionysus Dionysus reads aloud, "/Visions of St. Timmony Askaisix, the Last Seer of First Shem/."
- Arsul_T lets him read half a page and then if it doesn't strike him he picks another
Arsul_T I'll do about ten before I go to dreams and visions
Dionysus Dionysus is silent a moment, then says, "St. Timmony apparently prediected all of the Ages of Second Shem before First Shem was even over... According to this, we're in the Age of Empires. Next is the Age of Decline, then the Dark Ages... Anything?" You get nothing especial.
Arsul_T "No." he hands him the next book.
Arsul_T "What about the Age of Water? Where does it come?"
Arsul_T Whn
Arsul_T WHen
Dionysus "Afte the Dark Ages."
Dionysus About the fourth book, you get a premonition whne you touch it.
Dionysus "/The..." He pauses. "/The Last Vision of Ruisello Toutant/."
Arsul_T "Does it say anything about him?"
Dionysus He is quiet a moment, then says, "He was a gatorman in the Godless Times. He..." A pause, "He foresaw... you, I think."
Arsul_T "What does it say?"
Dionysus "'And then I saw my own blood mix with that of a goblin, & from it, a potent union... Four sons, each as mighty in their own way, as their forebear. One a Prophet, like myself, one a Druid, one a Vagabond, & one Reever."
Arsul_T "I didn't have three brothers."
Dionysus Yes, you did?
Dionysus Guiteau Toutant? (brother)
Dionysus Domy Toutant? (brother)
Dionysus Adam Toutant? (brother)
Dionysus From the wiki.
Arsul_T (sorry! My character sheet says different)
Arsul_T (it was before you wrote them up)
Arsul_T strike that
Arsul_T which ones do I know well enough to know what they're doing now?
Dionysus Last you heard, Guiteau was a shaman in your tribe, Domy & Adam had vanished.
Dionysus Well, not vanished.
Dionysus You haven't heard from them in decades, though. No idea what they do.
Arsul_T "I haven't heard from them in years."
Arsul_T he sounds sad
Arsul_T "Does it say anything else? Did he predict anything else?"
Dionysus Dionysus nods. "Well, perhaps we can look for them. Or maybe you can... Can you, I dunno, try to... control your premonitions?"
Dionysus "Oh, yes."
Arsul_T "I don't know how. But I can try."
- Arsul_T tries to think about Adam
Dionysus "He predicted the arrival of the Lost Ones, who he said came from other worlds. And he said something about it all going wrong, because of a deal between a Lost One & a powerful demon... And he says he saw... The sound & the fury. It doesn't say much more than that, though."
Dionysus Roll will.
Arsul_T what happens?
Dionysus Sorry, didn't see. Nothing happens.
Arsul_T "Something wrong?"
Arsul_T "All right."
Dionysus He says, "That's what it says," a little dubiously.
Dionysus What was that will roll for?
Arsul_T that one is for his druid brother, whichever one
Dionysus Nothing
Arsul_T he's doing it while there with the airship men
Arsul_T fuck
Arsul_T karma?
Dionysus No use.
Dionysus Oh, are you looking for premonitions for where to go?
Dionysus Or just for the druid in relation to Berellia?
Arsul_T second
Dionysus Noted.
Arsul_T but then he'll try for the direction
Dionysus No luck, sorry.
Arsul_T last time
Dionysus Nothing comes to you on that one
Arsul_T bleh
Dionysus The diff is 19.
Arsul_T I'll never win
Arsul_T well theoreticlaly I can
Dionysus Sorry.
Arsul_T it's ok
Dionysus Do you try another book?
Arsul_T yes
Dionysus In the prophecies or the interpretation section?
Arsul_T prophecies
Arsul_T just a couple more
Arsul_T five at most
Dionysus On the fifth one, you get another premonition.
Dionysus "/The Last Words of Eyeless Gazzuir/."
- Arsul_T hands it so Dionysus as soon as he feels it
- Arsul_T laughs slightly
Arsul_T "It has a sense of humor."
Dionysus "'A song will set them free'."
Dionysus Dionysus flips some pages. "They go on for two hundred pages trying to interpret what he meant."
Dionysus "But he was a famous seer. A saint of the fate faith. He predicted... well, a lot, but his last words... Just that."
Arsul_T "We'll set him free when we win."
Arsul_T "We control his fate."
Dionysus "It says 'them.' Maybe 'he' represents more than one person."
- Arsul_T frowns to himself. it's like he's testing the words out
Arsul_T "Maybe it's this problem? Whatever's gone wrong?"
Dionysus He nods, "It could be. I think we need more information. Shall we try more books?"
Dionysus To the interpretation section, or still more prophecies?
Arsul_T he starts pulling them. But he only has Dionysus read ones he feels something about
Arsul_T prophecies still
Dionysus About the fifteenth one, you find another.
Dionysus Dionysus gasps.
Arsul_T "What?"
Dionysus "/The Seven Hundred & Fourteenth Visions of the Prophetess of the Webweaver/."
Arsul_T "Give it to me?"
Arsul_T no ?
Dionysus He hands it over.
Arsul_T is it huge?
Dionysus You feel the premonition.
Arsul_T oh
Dionysus It's not small.
Arsul_T what do I feel?
Dionysus Same as the other books. A premonition that this might contain information.
Arsul_T right
Arsul_T I want to try and open it and flip through it, looking for the right area. I'll try and roll will to find it
Dionysus No need.
Arsul_T hah
Arsul_T ok
Dionysus You open to the right page.
Arsul_T "Here." he slides it to Dionysus
Dionysus Dionysus reads, in a pained voice, "The names of the Toutant family are unknowable to he who makes the Deals. If he gains these names, he will have power over the family. The blood of the family is powerful, connected to Shem itself, for the family is marked by the Powers. Beware them, for they bring great change."
Arsul_T "deals."
Arsul_T "My dream."
Arsul_T "He knew my name."
Dionysus Actually, he only used your last name.
Arsul_T strike that then
Arsul_T just the last
Arsul_T "Who do you think he was?"
Arsul_T has?
Dionysus Oh, was
Dionysus Strike mine
Dionysus A long pause, then, "I think he was the Devil."
Arsul_T "The Devil."
Arsul_T "What do you think the Powers are?" he says after pausing
Dionysus "The gods, maybe? I'm not sure."
- Arsul_T nods to himself and rises for another book.
Dionysus Dionysus happily puts that one away.
Dionysus You eventually exhaust this section.
Arsul_T That's fine.
Dionysus You try interpretation?
Arsul_T He moves downstairs to see if he gets more feelings
Arsul_T yes
Dionysus The tenth book you try gives one.
Dionysus "/Symbols of the Gods in Dreams & Visions/."
Arsul_T "It's amazing. People knowing things about you."
- Arsul_T opens it and hands it to dionysus
Dionysus "You opened to the index, Arsul."
Arsul_T "Who's on these pages? Read the entries?"
Dionysus "It's the cover page of the index. It just says 'Index of symbols, listed alphabetically.' Then the next page starts the listings."
Arsul_T "All right. Symbols: lights, judge, green eyes, trickery
Arsul_T "
Dionysus "Judge... The Arbiter (three-faced), the Father of Order (with a hammer), the Father of Fate (eyeless), The Mother of Light (glowing white)... Lights... (generic) Mother of Light or Mother of Vision. Specific colors?"
Arsul_T arbiter
Arsul_T "Arbiter."
Arsul_T "Red, blue, green."
Arsul_T or fill in the colors I saw
Dionysus "Red? Hatred, war, healing... Blue? Water, magic... Green? Flora, envy..."
Dionysus "Green eyes is envy."
Dionysus "Trickery isn't listed."
Arsul_T isn't that how that man sounded?
Arsul_T like an illusion?
Dionysus Yes, like trickery.
Dionysus It isn't listed in the index, though.
Arsul_T "Illusion? Blackheart?"
Arsul_T "A thorny branch."
Dionysus "No thorny branch, but htorns are envy. Blackheart? Black means darkness, void, destruction, despair, & death. Hearts mean healing or love."
Dionysus "Illusion isn't listed."
Arsul_T "Makes sense." he smiles to himself again
Dionysus Dionysus says, "What else do you remember?"
Arsul_T I'm not sure I remember anything else
Arsul_T about the first one
Dionysus If you want to refresh memory OOC, go look on the wiki.
Arsul_T I can't find the first dream
Dionysus
http://www.merukis.net/irclogs/2007-02-26-arsul's%20dream.txt
Arsul_T "A traitor. Although I think that speaks for itself."
Arsul_T "He was in chains."
Dionysus "Traitors aren't listed. Chains... order."
Arsul_T "All right. Another book."
Dionysus "/Common Avatars/"
Arsul_T "Green eyes. Beautiful women. Short stocky men."
Arsul_T "A chained man."
Dionysus "Green eyes is envy. Beautiful women? Love. Short stocky men? Dwarf would be Earth. No other short stocky men. Chained men is order."
Dionysus man
Arsul_T "What do the three faces of the arbiter mean?"
Arsul_T does it say what they represent?"
Dionysus "It doesn't say, but they mean good, neutral, & evil."
Arsul_T "These aren't as helpful unfortunately." he stands to find one mre helpful book
Dionysus The last one you touch triggers premonition, "/Obscure Symbology/."
Arsul_T "Index?"
Dionysus "I have no idea. It's not in any language I've ever seen."
- Arsul_T takes it back and goes searching for a librarian
Dionysus You find one.
Arsul_T "I need a translator."
Arsul_T he holds out the book
Dionysus The person looks down, "That's in the language of genies."
Dionysus "I'm afriad we can't help you."
Arsul_T "Who would know how to translate it?"
Dionysus An uncertain voice replies, "Maybe someone at the fate church, but I can't say other than that."
- Arsul_T frowns. "Can I borrow it or do we have to get it copied?"
Dionysus A pause, then in wonder, "You... can keep it, sir."
- Dionysus clears his throat, then says, "Thank you."
Arsul_T "Thanks."
Arsul_T If I have time I go back to the fate church, otherwise I do it the next day
Dionysus The next day, then.
Dionysus The same man meets you at the church, "You've brought a book that I am afriad I cannot help you with."
Arsul_T "Would someone else know how to read it?"
Dionysus "Your father knows."
Arsul_T "Who?"
Dionysus "You will meet him soon. You will know him, for he bears the same malady you bear in your eyes, &he is a man of greatness all the same. Ask him to read this."
Arsul_T I want to try to prophecy this
Arsul_T and I fail
Dionysus You do indeed
Dionysus The fate priest walks inside, & Dionysus says, "he's gone."
Arsul_T "That's fine. Thank you for coming with me again."
- Dionysus nods. "My pleasure."
Arsul_T so how's the whore?
Dionysus She's fine, but you find it hard to get it up while hacking.
