It follows the mother amongst elves. Halfbreeds are possible outside faeborn.

Elven powers work two ways: first, when a group of elves lives in an area, they begin to dominate life there, shaping the environment around them simply by existing. Second, the way they live their lives determines the sort of abilities they develop as they grow up.

For Arboreal elves, the forests become richerin flora, the trees grow to untold heights, & the animals tend to live in harmony with the lands. The woods bend to make the Arboreal elves at home.

Individual powers relate to flora.

Arboreal elves respect the forest above all else. They do not live in shelters, but out under the canopy, perhaps having crude tents to dwell in if the weather is bad. They live simple lives, communing with nature.

Arboreal elves are part of the racial alliance that protects the forests: wood goblins, forest trolls, dryads, etc. They live in harmony with these, often dominating the lesser groups by example.

Like all elves, they bear an inherent superior attitude that other races usually deem as arrogant. Furthermore, all elven societies are matrilineal.
