| Description | At birth, all dragons look like large, pink worms. At maturity, amaranth dragons grow to be long serpent of deep amaranth hue whose head is actually six, but looks like one. |
| Procreation | Dragons mate with each other only. Without intense supernatural interference, half-dragons are an impossibility. Dragons lay one to three eggs at a time. Upon hatching, a dragon immediately begins absorbing background energies. All dragon eggs are filled with pure, liquid draconic energy, which sustains the baby dragon upon hatching. |
| Esoterica | Amaranth dragons absorb msawhat-corrupted nommos in vast quantities. Shadow and mystery are very common, as is infernum. Arnum, yahas, poioumenon, dream, paradox, and blasphemy are also common. Psionics, rubedian, and earthpower aether are not unheard of. |
| Special Powers | Dragons gain new powers as they accumulate more energies. At each stage of growth, they gain a new ability, usually culminating with the twelfth ability when they accumulate . The usual progression of powers is as follows:
All dragons accumulate energies by absorbing them naturally from the area around them. As such, they must carefully cultivate their lairs to provide the right kinds of energies, hence they hoard appropriate objects. Other common powers include un-Name, create major illusion, negate truth, and falsify soul. |
| Alternate Forms | Amaranth dragons sometimes take the form of an ulus-tythe. |
| Weaknesses | Pure nommic energy can harm them. Speaking their True Name kills them. |
| Subspecies | False dragons have absorbed a whole False Name, becoming True Name-less dragons that warp reality around them. They appear to be whatever they wish to be, usually parts of a landscape, and they warp the minds of those who come near them. |
| Culture | Amaranth dragons lay their eggs in underground lakes of lava. One parent raises the young, teaching them through example and never telling them truths, letting them figure things out for themselves. One in four survive to maturity. At maturity, they break out on their own and reconstruct their own realities, building their own followings, usually leading small cults. In this way, they build a hoard and support. As they age, they are more and more likely to be betrayed by their followers. Those that die of old age usually fade into the fabric of reality. |
