On the great plains of western Palhur, these massive canines eat carrion, dig up graves, and terrorize all other animals. When they die, if they have eaten enough buried corpses, they rise as undead beasts. Local communities know an undead bonecrusher is out there because their herds will start dying and rising as skeletal abominations, and therefore, they form special hunting parties to destroy them. If a living aitapiooyi is seen, they are destroyed as quickly as possible and buried under the most powerful nearby tree.
