Description Aero gnomes are short (about 3.5'), Their heads are slightly too big for their bodies. They have big, pointed noses, wide grins, and human-hued hair and skin.
Procreation Gnomes breed with each other, where the type of gnome is determined by the mother of the gnome. Breeding with non-gnomes is only possible with supernatural intervention.
Esoterica Gnomes are hegnhic beings who are compelled to obey specific rules. By obeying the rules, they gain insights into systems and mechanism that gives them a supernatural affinity for devices and engineering. Aero gnomes also gain insights into aeronautics through wind aether. Gnomes can use almost any supernatural energy except entropy, and aero gnomes cannot use msawhat. The most commonly used are Foundation, other forms of aether, ethereal essence, yahas, void, mashoaab, damaskian power, dumaqu, arnum, and ordinal power.
Special Powers Aero gnomes have supernatural skill with aeronautical and wind engineering and devices. Like all gnomes, they have gnomish illogic damage, wherein their inevitably dangerously failed experiments do not, in fact, hurt them. They also tend to inherently know the speed of the wind.
Weaknesses Entropy and msawhat. If a gnome violates their rules, they become a rogue gnome whose energies are askew and dangerous.
Rules

Aero gnomes must obey three basic rules:

  1. Do not poison or pollute the air.
  2. Protect your passengers when flying.
  3. Do not tamper with major weather systems, lest you cause an Ice Age. Again.
Culture

Aero gnomes are obsessed with flying. They love to invent new flying machines, always trying to best the previous machine. Their mountaintop villages always feature landing strips and zones, special cliff-side devices, and every form of lift, balloon, and flying beast that can be found.

They live in small communites led by elders. Their families are small and usually focused on particular kinds of flying machines. Courtship often features shared flights and projects, or romantic gliding adventures. An aero gnome is considered an adult when they first successfully fly a machine, which is usually a very young age. Their society has some schools, apprentice programs, guilds, unions, and special independent learning spaces, with little structure. The focus is flight; how they get there is not to be heavily regulated.

The main recreation is aerial racing, which is a major competitive sport between communities. There are different tiers and different styles, and each tier and style's champion enters a big race at the height of the summer months wherein they race the others. The winner is always a celebrity and honored member of aero gnome society.

Engineering Aero gnomes are skilled with aeronautical and wind engineering. The most common uses for this are wind power turbines and flying machinery. To fly, they use everything from rukh-pulled chariots to hot air balloons to jetliners. They are obsessed with flight, and their rules are the only thing keeping them from more dangerous pursuits with flying machines.
