Abilities

Abilities are learned magical skills. These are usually learned via the character's occupation. Examples will be found on the various occupation pages. A character's occupation usually determines which alignment, magical energy, and abilities a person has. It is rare for someone to learn a magical ability outside their occupation, as it takes a lot of time and focus to learn abilities, especially those using unfamiliar magicks.

Improving one's abilities is done through practice and use, usually. A character can intentionally seek out and train for new abilities, or they might come up naturally through the story or from other characters teaching them.

When someone learns abilities, they might change occupations and learn abilities of another kind of magic. When this happens, if it is of a different alignment, their old abilities slowly fade as their magic changes and they do not use the old abilities as much. If they change to something within the same alignment, they may retain them longer, but they still fade from lack of use.
