Fey Leaders

Those who use fey magic for leadership or politics.

Collegamento

Type: Ambassador

Ambassadors who know the First Language, and thus, can speak every language that has ever existed. The First Language is an ancient language that has the magic of communication embedded in it. Some grow up speaking it, but most learn it either in a deal with powerful fey or through rigorous and intensive study. It is magically easy to learn, but to learn to wield its power is more complicated. It takes decades of study to wield it in the ways collegamenti do.

To wield the magic of the First Language more than just speaking it, they must learn the special words that draw its magic forth, and the secret ways to speak them safely. They are easy to say, but saying them usually causes someone's mind or tongue to burn away. The safe methods are secrets kept by other collegamenti or powerful fey, and these are only given once one proves themselves or pays a dear price. Once one knows these secrets, they gain the abilities the First Language shares:
  • Deep comprehension: they can wield the First Language such that they cannot be misunderstood vocally or in writing.
  • Tongue twister: they can speak a complicated phrase and cause those who hear it to be tongue-tied and confused.
  • Speak sideways: they can speak such that only those they wish to understand them can understand them.
  • Web of words: they can speak in such a way that people are trapped in a web of words that they think they understand but don't.
  • Double speak: they can say two different things at once.
As ambassadors, they serve powerful fey leaders and serve their interests, often sparring politcally with imperial forces.

Selvaggare

Type: Adviser

Sevlaggari are advisers to fey leaders who are fueled by their belief in stories and are able to draw from stories to give counsel. To believe in stories is a form of powerful faith, as the worlds in the Spirit Realm are as much driven by stories as physics. Those who believe in them deeply enough may be able to see into the world and understand the flow of the narrative they are in, thus allowing them to advise those they work for.

To wield this power, some simply make deals with powerful fey beings, but most simply come to it from a lifetime of believing in stories and training to sense and understand them. Selvaggari are usually chosen by powerful leaders of fey communities of some kind and either trained in or dealt their powers with the intention of having them be selvaggari. Some train from childhood, though most do not. They must, however, still sincerely believe in the stories.

After their years of training, they face a series of narrative trials, usually a small quest, and are eventually given or win their abilities:
  • Sense of tales: the selvaggare can sense stories flowing around them, big and small, and know where some of them are going.
  • Narrative precognition: the selvaggare can sometimes guess or sense the next action or event in a story.
  • Multiple truths: some stories contradict one another, but the selvaggare can impose the narrative that both are true at once, briefly.
  • Role recognition: the selvaggare can recognize what role a person is playing in a story - antagonist, protagonist, support, etc.
  • Intersectioning: the selvaggare can tell when stories are intersecting.
Because selvaggare can sense the metanarrative, they often go mad.
