Celestial Wranglers

Those who use animals with celestial or popular magic.

Canicasator

Type: Kenneler

Canicasatori are people who are keepers of celestial dogs. These dogs appear to them after they have spent years helping, protecting, and supporting animals, especially and specifically dogs. They come from a long tradition of workers and oppressed people taking in dogs who were abused or mistreated by the powerful. Some even rescue dogs from abusive owners. This has led to some who work as kennelers taking on special magic to help the dogs they care for.

To become a canicasator, one must learn how to care for dogs, including rudimentary veterinary medicine, and they must spend a great deal of time caring for dogs (and any other animal in need), not only healing and caring for them, but also keeping them out of the hands or use of oppressors, exploiters, abusers, or other infernal, imperial, or industrial powers. Eventually, after years of work, they find they can understand the dogs, and they are led by certain celestial dog spirits on a raid to free dogs from some imperial power or abusive figure. That night, if they succeed, they gain certain abilities:
  • Animalspeech: they can speak to any animal.
  • Dog's nose: they have the keen sense of smell of a dog.
  • Soothing touch: if they pet any animal, they soothe it; if they pet a dog, they gain even more bonuses. This can heal trauma in an animal.
  • Solidarizing run: if they run with a dog, they bond with it and learn its troubles.
  • Fur and blood: they may mix their own fur and blood to heal an animal, usually a dog.
  • Marked kennel: they can mark a kennel, doghouse, dog bed, or other safe spot for their dogs with their own blood to protect it from imperial magicks.
Canicasatori must build special kennels for the dogs they help. To do this, they must find space where the dogs have room, are safe, and can be close to the canicasator once they gain their abilities. Failure to do this means they lose their magic.

After a while fo being a true canicasator, they will be visited again by the celestial dog spirits, and they will be granted a specific dog companion. If they already have a dog that is close to them, the spirits may just bless the dog friend with special magic:
  • Blessed dog: any dog breed (though those local to the area are most common) blessed with heightened senses, the ability to communicate with the canicasator over distances, and the ability to protect other dogs.
  • Fidelis hound: a hound dog that gains magic from loyalty to the canicasator and can take wounds for them, amplify their faith, and sense dangers to the canicasator.
  • Celeste dog: a blue dog with fluffy, curly fur who is able to walk on water, smell evil, and harm demons, undead, and other infernal beings with their bite.
  • Spotted carriage dog: a magical dalmatian who can sense fires, is resistant to flame and smoke, and has extra strength to save people from burning buildings.
  • Shield mastiff: a massive dog with thick skin, the ability to take wounds for others, and has a high prowess.
  • Old reliable: a sheep dog who is always reliable, has bonuses to herding, and can sense danger to its flock.
  • Good boy: a dog that is good at specific tasks that help people and gains magic from doing them well.
  • Long-legged bracer: a dog with long legs who magically supports people, literally taking on qualities they need - a seeing-eye dog that can see for you, an emotional support animal with magical empathic powers, etc.
  • Fluffy retriever: a fluffy retriever dog that magically bonds to families, blood or found, amplifying familial love among them.
The canicasatori sometimes work for imperials, but never use their abilities in service to them, instead, serving to get closer to help animals harmed by them.

Frith

Type: Mammalist

Wranglers of the rabbits of contentment. A frith is a wielder of celestial emotion who manifest magical rabbits that spread contentment. To wield their magic, a frith must help others find a level of contentment, usually by disrupting the purveyors of discontentment, exploitation, and violence in the world. They are cunning, mischievous, and defiant, creators of spaces where contentment is possible in a world of horrors. They are, effectively, amateur celestial tricksters who can summon cute bunnies to make others feel better.

To become a frith, one must first find a place to feel at peace. Most find a nice shady spot in the wilderness, but some find their own peace in their homes, communities, or public spaces in cities. Next, they must observe the discontentment created by the powers around them, and they must make the decision not only to act, but to keep acting until a level of change has come. Then, they must devise a plan. This plan must be devious, troublesome, and perhaps a little absurd. Then, they sleep, and in their sleep, the three rabbits will come to them. The first, Trouble, will help them with their plan. The second, Egress, will help them get away with it. And the third, Contentment, will give them peace of mind when the time comes.

When they awaken, they must enact their plan. If it goes well, someone in the area of effect of their plan will feel their life change for the better, and a bunny of contentment will come to that person. Meanwhile, the frith will return to their place of peace to find the three rabbits and a brood of way too many bunnies of contentment. And a new mission: to spread these bunnies throughout the world, one person at a time.

Friths are trickster rogues who engage in acts of absurd terrorism against the oppressors and exploiters of the world and deliver bunnies of contentment to people whom they have helped. When they engage in these schemes, their benefactor rabbit spirits will grant them special powers depending on the job. The more bunnies they deliver, the better the powers will get. Consult the GM per job for different powers.

Sfregamentor

Type: Wrangler

Sfregamentori are people who have a magical connection to their pets via their profound love for them.

Love in all its (healthy) forms is a potent and protective popular magic, and some people have a long tradition of learning to wield that magic that manifests from the love of the animals they care for to form special bonds with them. These bonds extend to other animals as well, but they are most powerful with those they keep as pets.

Sfregamentori started out as normal people in oppressed communities who formed special bonds with their pets as a means of emotional survival and resilience in the face of trauma and exploitation, and they have grown to become a special and often secret part of oppressed communities. They keep a lot of animals, have a special set of pets, and are known by their communities to be someone that can help others with their animals, especially pets.

To become a sfregamentor, one must have a pet - not an animal kept for work only, but one that has an emotional meaning for the keeper - and have a deep love for them. This love cannot be abusive or toxic, but must be genuine. And they must learn from other sfregamentori how to draw magic from this bond, performing acts of love and support for their pet and engaging in mutual support for one another (in a normal way, like petting, playing, etc. with them). They must recognize special moments with the pet and learn to carry that emotion with them, focusing on it and drawing strength from it in hard moments, until it manifests as a burning blue light in their hearts. Once this happens, they will be able to sense the emotions of their pet directly. If they spend enough time thereafter with their pet, it will eventually grow to give them other abilities:
  • Animal empathy: they can sense the emotions of any pets, theirs or others, or other domesticated or owned animals.
  • Pet finder: they can sense where people's pets are, including their own, if they know the name of the pet.
  • Special whistle: they have a special whistle for all of their pets that the pet can hear anywhere and respond to.
  • Mutual warmth: if they cuddle with a pet, they both become as warm as if a small fire or blanket is present.
  • Simple tricks: they can perform a trick with their pet and gain bonuses to both themselves and the pet.
The pet must be a mundane animal and a commonly kept pet - no tigers, bears, or wyverns. Dogs, cats, ferrets, rats, mice, snakes, lizards, some fish, some birds, etc. are common.

Their primary pet will also give them a special ability based on that primary pet.
