Beastkin

Beastkin are animal folk who are born resembling their parents, but when they come of age, they have a vision of an animal that serves as their guide (moral, ethical, or otherwise) and determines their adult form. They tend to be more on the human side of appearance, with just a few animalistic features.

Black-Browed Albatrosskin: 5' tall anthropomorphic albatrosses (also called mollymawks). They are primarily white with black wings. They have black eyebrows, orange bills, and dark eyes. They are known for long-distance flights, resistance to the cold, and loud voices. They live in nomadic communities which pass through the region often. They are often associated with sailing vessels. They gain magic from their long journeys if they stop to learn from them. The albatross guide spreads wisdom.

Black Sea Urchinkin: 3' tall anthropomorphic sea urchins with dark black spines. Their spines are on their backs, arms, and legs, and their forebodies are dark grey and hominid. They are known for the magicks of protection they use to protect their communities, which live in the seas of the region. They can come on land, but return to saltwater once a day. They are oppressed in imperial society. The urchin guide gives protections.

[Cleopatra] Butterflykin: 6' tall anthropomorphic butterflies with white and yellow wings. They have dots on their wings that are orange or brown. They often move around to avoid detection by imperials, who enslave or exploit them, or hunt them for sport, keep them in zoos, or otherwise mistreat them. They gain powerful magic from their transformations, which they use to help others see themselves. The butterfly guide reveals the true self.

[Eurasian] Carpkin: 6' tall anthropomorphic carp. They have a golden sheen on their greyish scales. They are good swimmers. They are exploited heavily by imperials. The carp guide teaches humility.

Carpenter Beekin: 3' tall anthropomorphic bees. They have black chitinous bodies with patches of yellow fur. They live in woodlands and heavily vegetated areas. They are hard workers, often exploited by imperials for their endurance, and they gain magic from working together. The bee guide shares in the labor.

Ceresiosauruskin: 10' tall anthropomorphic sauropterygians. They are long-necked, flippered, tailed reptiles of the deep waters. They live in small families in deep waters, wielding magic of truth and honesty to protect themselves. They value honesty amongst each other, and they hate the imperials and their deceptions. They are hunted and killed by imperials, denounced falsely as shipwreckers. They come on land rarely and must return to the seas frequently. The ceresiosaur guide values truth.

Darkling Beetlekin: 5' tall anthropomorphic black beetles. They have segmented antennae which allows them to communicate with shadows. They are very strong. They live in large communities where they try to keep to themselves, hiding from imperials and outsiders, but they are often enslaved or exploited. They are very oppressed in imperial society. [Sardinian] Dholekin: 5' tall anthropomorphic dholes. They have bright fur, usually brown, tan, or dark grey, but one in a thousand have fur that is a full rainbow of color. They are empowered by rainbow magic, which they study in their culture. They live on the islands and are heavily oppressed by imperials. Their culture is one of honor and resistance, helping one another, and loyalty. The dhole guide is empowering.

Fin Whalekin: 20' tall anthropomorphic whales. They have a hook-shaped fin on their backs. They are brown or dark grey in color. They live in the seas in the region in small communities that are known for helping to save and protect other mortals at sea. While imperial law works against them, giving them few rights, sailors see them as special and honor them. They can speak to sea animals, whom they often rally to help during shipwrecks. Their culture is one of living large in harmony with the animals around them, supporting one another, and trying not to get involved in imperial bullshit. They rarely come on land, but they are capable of it. The fin whale guide protects animals. NPC only.

[Kotschy's] Geckokin: 3' tall anthropomorphic geckos. They have brown and grey scales with tones of yellow, red, or black and w-shaped bands. They live along the coasts in dry cliffs and rocky areas, living in communities where they survive via scavenging and getting by. They have magical eyesight that warns them of danger. They can see in the dark. They are treated as pests by imperials. The gecko guide teaches vigilance.

House Mousekin: 3' tall anthropomorphic mice. They are brown and white in color, with long tails. They live everywhere in the region, in small family units, keeping neat little houses. [Eurasian] Jaykin: 3' tall anthropomorphic jays. They have brownish pink plumage with black stripes on their sides and a white throat. They have panels of blue on their wings and faces. They live in small communities in the woods, living in tree houses, and they tend to avoid imperials as a rule. The jay guide teaches sharing good fortune.

[Common] Pipistrellekin: 4' tall anthropomorphic bats with brown and black fur and a wide wingspan. They are foragers who live in wood- and farmlands. They gain power from their resistance to oppression, and many of them are part of a network of resistance. They can echolocate. The pipistrelle guide shows the path to liberation.

They are known for their bravery and resistance against powerful foes, though they are nonvenomous and not particularly violent. They simply refuse to be pushed around. [European] Robinkin: 4' tall anthropomorphic robins. They have beautiful songs. Their feathers are red, orange, grey, and blue. Their music is considered romantic even by imperials, who look down on them. The robin guide teaches love.

Roe Deerkin: 5' tall anthropomorphic roe deer. They are swift. They live in the fields and forests of the region, and they keep to themselves in these areas, having small, strong communities. They are not carnivorous; instead, they are attuned to the prey of the hunt, from which they gain power and give guidance to others. They are greatly oppressed in the empires. They are known for fighting against great odds, and their sense of justice - they have rituals to shame the unjust dead, for example. Imperials often seek to exploit them as warriors. They are often recruited by imperials for their strength, though most families look down on this. The woolly rhino guide teaches the value of family.
