Wands
The amount of power a wand can handle is affected by what it was made of and the way it was crafted.
Crafting
There are three styles of
wand-making: whittled, natural, or lacquered. Whittled wands have a rawer look but are not untouched. They are good for attack spells. Lacquered wands take the most work and can handle the most power, but they fail when it comes to complicated spells. And natural wands are simply sticks taken from trees (never from the ground--that's just a stick--but pruned intentionally). They are best for defensive spells and can handle extreme complexity.
Wood
Wood is the most common material for wands.
Juniper and
ylang ylang are the two most potent of common kinds of wood, but common
oak,
hickory, or
cedar are also good. Magical kinds of wood are best.
Antler and
Bone
The animal from these materials came determine the powers they have. A bone from an intelligent mortal is best for evil magic. A bone from a common animal is more acceptable. Antlers are used in ancient ceremonies.
