| Description | Runed gnomes are short (about 3'), Their heads are slightly too big for their bodies. They have big noses, wide grins, and bluish hair and skin of varying hues. |
| Procreation | Gnome breed with each other, where the type of gnome is determined by the mother of the gnome. Breeding with non-gnomes is only possible with supernatural intervention. |
| Esoterica | Gnomes are hegnhic beings who are compelled to obey specific rules. By obeying the rules, they gain insights into systems and mechanism that gives them a supernatural affinity for devices and engineering. Runed gnomes also gain insights into magic through mana. Gnomes can use almost any supernatural energy except entropy, and runed gnomes cannot use void. The most commonly used are Foundation, aether, ethereal essence, yahas, mashoaab, damaskian power, dumaqu, arnum, and ordinal power. For their magical powers, their most common spheres are Iussian, Seelie, and Azure. Their preferred forms of magic are bondsmagic, enchantment, and runecasting. As bondsmages, they often bond with flora and fauna around them in order to gain insights into how things work, but their main love is to bond with technology itself. Runed gnomes are among the few who have mastered this craft, bonding to inanimate machinery and gaining power from its materials. They also often gain control of the machinery. |
| Special Powers | Runed gnomes have supernatural skill with magical engineering and devices. Like all gnomes, they have gnomish illogic damage, wherein their inevitably dangerously failed experiments do not, in fact, hurt them. They also tend to inherently know how powerful an inanimate object's magic is. |
| Weaknesses | Entropy and void. If a gnome violates their rules, they become a rogue gnome whose energies are askew and dangerous. |
| Rules | Runed gnomes must obey three basic rules:
|
| Culture | For runed gnomes, the center of society is school. They focus on learning from an early age, studying math, science, engineering, languages, and magic. When a runed gnome is born, they are raised by the caretakers at the school, then put in classes when they are old enough. Parents usually willingly give their children to schools, but remain in contact throughout their lives and keep close. Parents who aren't working at a school are allowed regular visits, sometimes even daily. A runed gnome is considered an adult when they complete their first magical device, usually at a young age. Once they do this, they can choose to remain in school or seek an occupation. Both are acceptable, as long as magic is involved. Those who remain in school pay for it by serving the school as well. Before this, they are usually not allowed to court another gnome. Runed gnomish society is governed by a parliament elected by each community and the independent schools. Schools elect from their board of directors, while communities elect from their elders. The center of runed gnome communities are the monthly festivals, which celebrate different aspects of magic and feature displays of magic and technology. To be chosen to be part of the ceremonies is a high honor. |
| Engineering | Runed gnomes are skilled with magical engineering. The most common uses for this are enchanted mechanical devices and electronics. They are adept with magical metals and stones. They are often called upon to work on magical weaponry and armors, but their main love is the mundane and useful magical devices that make lives easier. They love to make things that are used frequently. |
