| Description | The returned look exactly as they did in life until they have paid their undeath price, at which point they begin bleeding from every orifice. |
| Corruption | Only through a ritual that calls upon the Triplets of the Webweaver can create a returned. |
| Esoterica | The returned are beings of gossamer light and msawhat. They have the exact powers they had in life, and they can learn in arts they would have been able to learn in life. |
| Special Powers | The returned cause intense unease in those who become aware they are undead. A returned has every power it had in life, exactly as it was in life. They have all their memories, skills, and experiences. They are physically, emotionally, metaphysically, and mentally indistinguishable from what they were in life. Only an examination of their True Name would betray what they are. They also have three powers (which they keep hidden) in undeath: they can steal a mortal's reflection by touching the back of a mirror the person was the last to look into; they can cause intense physical pain in a mortal who they have a piece of (lock of hair, tooth, finger- or toenail, etc.), and they can hear and choose to block the prayers of any faithful within 100 yards of them. Once the price of their undeath is paid, they bleed from every orifice and go on a killing spree, gaining the power to gain power from blood-drinking and the ability to throw webs from their mouth that binds and drains people of lifeforce. |
| Damnation | The Triplets decide on what extra powers a returned will have in unlife, usually based on the price they want paid. It will be something to facilitate that price. |
| Necromancy | The Triplets of the Webweaver will return a mortal to "life" in exchange for a specific price paid either by the returned or the person who invoked the Triplets (or both). The power to create a returned is significant (32), but the power to summon the Triplets is not so significant (16). The ritual to summon the Triplets requires three sacrifices: the blood of a follower of an Alabaster or Fulgent Divine (blasphemy), the flesh of an innocent child (cruelty), and the looks of a beautiful person (vanity) (usually invoked by slashing someone's face). The Triplets will appear in a circle made of blood and ash if these three things are invoked under the dark of night. If the ritualist agrees to the price, the returned appears at dawn. To control a returned, one must know their secret and have power over the price they must pay, withholding their access to it. To summon one, one must have a dispensation from the Triplets themselves. To capture and draw power from one, one must use gossamer light (25) to bind them. |
| Sending | To send one before they have paid their price, one must trick them into admitting their undead status and then get them to walk into a circle made of pure water, the ash of a saint's bones, and the Names of seven angels. To send one after they have paid their price, one must remove the head or heart of the returned (which will temporarily incapacitate it) and bury it in holy ground. |
| Weaknesses | One of the 12 primary heavenly lights may have more power over a returned than others, but any heavenly essence, qi, or the gates, can send them with enough power. |
| Behavior | The returned must pay a price for their undead status, often to take the life of someone specific, deliver something to the Triplets, or otherwise pay tribute to the Triplets in beauty, faith, or pain. They life the lives they had before they died, seeking to pay their price. Once they pay the price, they go on a killing spree, gaining strength from blood and lifeforce, seeking to become a powerful monster. |
| Dominion Culture | In the Srisian Dominion, the returned are spies sent to the world of the living to bring back information to their masters. They are elite parts of the ruling class. |
| Other Dominions | The returned do not exist in any other Dominion except, rarely, in the Raesian Dominion, where they serve the same purpose. |
| Mortal Interactions | Mortals usually believe the returned to be alive, miraculously resurrected or never truly dead, and do not know anything until the returned have paid their price and become monstrous killers. |
| Afterlife | The returned are doomed to the Hells after spending Ages in the in-between because of the power of the Triplets, unless an Elysian miracle frees them. |
