Corporal Nyrande was a servant to a powerful noble family, the Hevendales, who were caught selling state secrets to the Kren'atanics. Their downfall came because Nyrande & his brother, Shavelle, stole the documents they were told to deliver to the draconic soldiers & brought them instead to the Emperor. On the way, Shavelle was slain.

Rewarded for his loyalty, Nyrande spent some timein the Imperial Palace before Damon heard his story & recruited him for work for the Torches, posing as a servant for other nobles & feeding information to Damon for the purposes of tracking nobles suspect of treachery.
