Description

Mammonites appear to be human, but their insides are nothing but white sludge.

Procreation

Mammonites reproduce by exchanging white sludge vomit with one another, regardless of gender. The receiver will gestate a new mammonite for three years before vomiting up a fully formed adult mammonite.

Powers

Mammonites gain power by not doing anything that requires exertion. They gain power by lazing about. Working turns them into common humans, but not working allows them to grow the white sludge within themselves, which gives them the power to drain esoteric energies from others. They are resistant to poisons.

Curse

The white sludge that makes up the insides of mammonites is raw drenante turned into a foul humor. If it touches anything with esoteric energies, it will absorb it and convert it to stronger drenante. If a mammomite becomes too full of white sludge, they will seek to vomit it into another mammonite in order to reproduce. If they find no one in time, they simply spew the white sludge on the ground and let it boil away.

If white sludge is fed to a non-mammonite, they gain some or all of the esoteric energies absorbed into it. It is highly, highly addictive, however.

Weaknesses

If they drain euergasia from someone or something, it will destroy them. If they generate it honestly, it will turn them into a common human.

Nations

There is only one mammonite nation: the Kuratis of Lann Kurat.

Culture

The original mammonites were cursed because of their greed, but they were already the rulers of a powerful country. Throughout the Ages, they have been attracted to roles as members of ruling classes in order to reduce the amount of actual work they ever have to do in their lives. The original mammonites were rulers of the country that would become Lann Kurat, a powerful capitalist country in Ansulym. The mammonites used their wealth and power to form a dynasty that lived in absolute luxury and thus gained immense esoteric power as well.

Because mammonites become common humans if they do real work, there are no mammonites amongst the working class, slave classes, or other oppressed groups. Because they reproduce fully formed mammonites, they do not have any cultural traditions about raising children - and also don't need to do the work of raising them. Instead, new mammonites are invited immediately to share in the luxury and decadence of their lifestyle. The most work they ever do is seek out victims to drain energies from. Usually, they use their wealth to employ servants and slaves to bring them victims.

Lann Kurat is known for a culture of hyperindividualism, consumerism, and commercialism; they focus on selling products that have little to no actual value, but sell for quite a lot. They reward their most loyal and powerful servants with white sludge to consume. This helps them create powerful servants who are entirely dependent upon them.

Among the Kuratis, they have a love for foul but difficult to prepare foods, expensive but impractical vehicles, impractical but famous fashions, mansions that take up a lot of space but have few functional rooms, and other useless things. They do not have special holidays, create art, or use their wealth for anything good for anyone.

Esoterica

Mammonites are born with drenante within them because of the curse on their ancestors. They can reject this energy by doing honest work (which will turn them into common humans), but most never even try. Culturally, they are attracted to quaestus, infernum, imperium, corrogatio, bedrog, blasphemy, fusei, gossamer light, hollow energy, razdavit', and thorn energy. They do not use any energy that requires real work of them.

Religion

Mammonites believe their Divine, Yatana, guides them in business dealings, and they spill sludge and offer a tithe to them with money to the church. The church is run by non-mammonites who believe their worship will bring them wealth, but the heads of the church are lazy, vile mammonites. The structure of the church changes as needed to suit the desires of the high priests.

Gender

Mammonites pretend to believe in a gender binary because it's convenient to them, but they have no real genders or even biological differences.

Economy

Mammonites are capitalists.

Military

Mammonites employ non-mammonites to be their military, which is a complex, sprawling organization that has bases all over the world to enforce their business interests.

Language

The Kurati language is American English.

Trade

Mammonites buy and sell anything, as long as they can find a way to profit.

Outside View

Most don't even really know mammonites exist, confusing them with vampires, common humans, or a myth. Those who are aware of them usually view them with disgust, but aspire to their lifestyles of luxury, unless they are class conscious - and then they simply hate them.
