Description At birth, all dragons look like large, pink worms. At maturity, jasper dragons grow to be red, yellow, brown or green or even rarely blue scaled serpents with thirteen eyes, thirteen mouths, and thirteen tongues in each mouth.
Procreation Dragons mate with each other only. Without intense supernatural interference, half-dragons are an impossibility. Dragons lay one to three eggs at a time. Upon hatching, a dragon immediately begins absorbing background energies. All dragon eggs are filled with pure, liquid draconic energy, which sustains the baby dragon upon hatching.
Esoterica Jasper dragons have accumulated msawhat-corrupted dream energy, fear resonance, and infernum in vast amounts. They also accumulate rending, brumal aether, lunar aether, Damaskian power, poioumenon, pure msawhat, rubedian aether, shadow, and mystery. Divine energies are not unheard of. Other powers vary, but pure dream and holy powers are impossible.
Special Powers

Dragons gain new powers as they accumulate more energies. At each stage of growth, they gain a new ability, usually culminating with the twelfth ability when they accumulate . The usual progression of powers is as follows:

  • Level 1: Fear toxin breath weapon
  • Level 2: Immunity to fear
  • Level 3: Immunity to weariness
  • Level 4: Immunity to heat
  • Level 5: Scale allows bearer to sense fear
  • Level 6: Illusory wall
  • Level 7: Nightmare walker, once per year
  • Level 8: Demon speech
  • Level 9: Sense fear
  • Level 10: Instill phobia
  • Level 11: Summon unseelie
  • Level 12: Greatest Fear Illusion

All dragons accumulate energies by absorbing them naturally from the area around them. As such, they must carefully cultivate their lairs to provide the right kinds of energies, hence they hoard appropriate objects.

Other common powers include haunting shadow, fearsome presence, ear-shattering wail, nightmare flame, and poisonous touch.

Alternate Forms Jasper dragons sometimes take the form of a Maradacian.
Weaknesses Dream energy and radiance harms them most.
Subspecies Terror dragons have accumulated more fear resonance and msawhat-corrupted dream energy than most, and they have become paragons of horror. They change forms at will to be what you most fear, and they live only in the nightmare realm. They warp it about them and haunt the dreams of the powerful, especially other dragons.
Culture Jasper dragons live in the deep woods of Malaer, where terrors lurk. They lay their eggs in eldritch nests of bramble and fire, and they raise their young to be horrors that stalk the woods. They form dark alliances with powerful beings near to them and enslave the weak, and they terrorize their foes and the meek and mild. They are brutal and vicious and live in small tribes led by the most fearsome among them. When they grow old, they settle into living in a vast pit or gully where they lie in wait.
