The first three are the cycle of existence: the beginning (Foundation), the middle (Existence), and the end (Rending). The second three are the cycle of non-existence: the end (Rending), the middle (Non-Existence), and the beginning (Oblivion).

Hexology is the study of these twin cycles and the use of the pattern to invoke the power of the Rending plane.

Hexologists do this in six ways: morag weaponry, hexograms, self-destruction, ritual deconstruction, calling the six, and Abbadonic communion.

Morag weaponry:
Sword-type morags are the most common form of morag weaponry. They are +13/+13 weapons and indestructible by most means (Foundation-power being the surest way to damage them). They also have wills of their own. There are also those who can craft moragstone or morag crystal into weapons, or find ways to wield morag acid. The most famous of these are the morag-hammer and morag-armor of the Champion of the Ruiner. Crafting from moragstone, crystal, or acid is only possible through Abaddonic communion, faith in the Ruiner or Troll God, certain infernal powers, or Abaddonic magic.

Hexograms:
Hexograms are the most common form of hexology. They are hexagonal forms with bonding points at each angle. Each angle represents one of the ponts of the two threes. One places the hexogram on one's body (either by taking the object--usually made from titanium, cumaru, obsidian, troll bone, hornet chitin, or wolverine bone--and placing it on the belly, back, or leg, though tattoos are not uncommon, either). Then, one empowers as many bonding points as one wishes by puncturing the bonding point with someting and puncturing the flesh in the same blow. So long as one can remain conscious while doing this, the bonding will take place. The chosen bonding points determine the power invoked. The body of the caster is often permanently damaged in the process.

Furthermore, combinations can be made of the combinations. In other words, one may do (1-2)-(4-6) or (1-2-6)-(3-4-5) and so on, as long as the same point is not used twice.

Self-Destruction:
Intentional self-destruction of any sort (physical, social, mental, emotional, metaphysical, economic, political, etc.) calls upon the power of the Rending, whether the intent of the self-destroyer is that specifically or simply to be destroyed. The "liberation" of burning one's bridges involves at least some amount of this power. Powerful hexologists create these stiuations for themselves or others and ride the resultant wave of destructive enrgy to their goals. This is basically incredible social engineering with a subtle supernatural element.

Ritual Deconstruction:
Ritual deconstruction is the dismantling or other form of destruction of an object or person in a ceremonial capacity in order to manipulate the energies of the Rending. This is a largely narrativistic approach, as it requires a Moment be built carefully. Ceremonies involve heavy amounts of symbology and lots of damage to property and persons. This can yield quite a bit of energy, and it usually results in the destruction of at least one of the users.

Calling the Six:
Calling the six is the process of tearing one's Name asunder in order to invoke powers of the Rending on an unheard of level. The first part of the calling is to destroy one's reputation or social standing by doing something horrible that will be found out (immediately or in relatively quick fashion). The second part of the calling is to break one's own heart by hurting something or someone one cares about deeply. The third part of the calling is to destroy one's own home, literally or figuratively. The fourth part is to destroy one's reason, memory, or imagination through some form of mental trauma. The fifth part is to damage one's soul by committing an unpardonable sin. The sixth is to literally destroy one's body--jumping off a high cliff or building is enough, but immolation, vats of acid, and quartering are all possible avenues as well. These must be six separate actions (the first and fifth are often tempting to combine, for instance, into one action, but this will not result in the calling of the six). Once these six things are done, whether the person intends it or not, one's Name will have been rended and in that moment of death, the person will have the chance to use the power of the Rending.

Abbadonic Communion:
This is the process of connecting to the powers of the Rending through meditative process. One needs to invoke symbolically the powers of the Rending through some physical experience (anything from breaking a bone to simply burning cumaru and inhaling the smoke), then enter a meditative trance. In this trance, one will see some vision that symbolizes the Rending. One must destroy it in the vision, and then one will have access to the Rending. At this point, a trial will ensue wherein the vision-quest will become a hellish tribulation wherein the person risks their entire being. If one survives, one will come out of the trance with powers derived from the Rending.
