| Forms | Most fyruses appear to be an ember or spark, a small, particularly active flame. They run out of fuel quickly and die off. Those who become stronger usually have the form of the flame, smoke, or lava that they are part of, but with a humanoid face within the flames. Once they gain even more strength, however, they can take on a humanoid form made of flame, lava, or smoke. Those who are very large can also take the form of a fire whirlwind, though this will eat up much of their energy and make them die off quicker. The most powerful fyruses can take the form of any kind of creature made of fire, lava, or smoke. The most common are tigers, firebirds, scorpions, hornets, bulls, fireflies, echnidnas, snakes, lizards, or dragons. |
| Procreation | Fyruses burst into existence when rubedian aether is potent enough within a source of heat or fire. They sometimes produce new fyruses if they burn enough fuel. |
| Esoterica | Fyruses are beings of rubedian aether. Weaker fyruses do not last long, consuming their fuel then vanishing, but some have enough will and wit to use rubedian arts. Those who find enough fuel to survive for long periods sometimes take on other powers based on the fuel they are consuming. |
| Special Powers | Fyruses consume fuel, and from doing so, gain strength. They are inherently very hot, burning everything near them if possible, thus consuming it. If they grow strong enough, they can control smoke, choose not to burn things they are near, and command heat and flame more expertly. |
| Collective Powers | If nine or more fyruses are in close proximity, their heat intensifies for all, and if they begin consuming the same fuel, they will merge into a larger, more powerful fyrus. Unlike most other viridianites, fyruses can grow without joining with others of their kind just by consuming more fuel, but they often become stronger quicker if they unite. This happens most often within volcanoes or wildfires. |
| Elementalism | Anyone can bond with a fyrus so long as they have heat within them, but only beings or users of rubedian aether can bond with a fyrus safely. Most who try to bond without protections are consumed as fuel. Bonding usually brings the mortal control over fire, heat resistance, and mild fever, even if they are beings of rubedian aether. Those who try to force a bonding with other esoterica must do something to protect themselves from the heat or risk be consumed, even if they are beings of rubedian aether, but this will allow them to draw raw rubedian power from the fyrus. Communing with a fyrus requires intense heat resistance as well, as usually it involves entering either a fire or lava flow. However, there are ways to commune just with fyric heat via druidic communion, but this does not gain them very great power. As such, druids usually do not have very powerful access to rubedian aether. The most common use of a fyrus is when a weak one is captured for alchemical experiments. Ars ignis is one of the most popular forms of alchemy, used to create napalm, Ledean fire, and other forms of chemical flame via esoteric arts. A fyrus is a very common component of these arts. |
| Weaknesses | Brumal or currents aether or just enough plain water can kill a fyrus. Being denied fuel in any way can kill them. Brown aether will warp and destroy them. |
| Behavior | Most fyruses do not last very long. They consume what fuel is around them, then flicker and fade away, starving to death within hours. Those who take form in areas with a lot of fuel and room to grow, however, can spread and grow and become massive. Even these can be fleeting: house fires, forest fires, etc. may only last a few hours or weeks. But some find greater and longer life, such as those in volcanoes, lava seas, or extreme fires. These take on a greater form and power and become protectors of the heat and flame, careful and cunning. They seek fuel to consume, but also maintain a balance so that they may not attract danger. |
| Mortal Interactions | Most mortals do not know of fyruses, but those that do are usually afraid of them, killing dangerous flames quickly to prevent their creation. Alchemists, druids, and others who wield rubedian energy, however, find and tend and protect them, for they are rare and very useful. Among the ka'ar, they are worshipped as forms of the Divine Flame. |
