Description

Felinians are anthropomorphic cats. They are smallish (5'8" tall) for felinoid animalmen. Their appearances range as much as normal cats. They have large eye sockets and strong jaws.

Common coats include tabby, bicolor, tuxedo, van, calico, colorprint, white, and smoke cat. Common body forms include Dabusenese [oriental], foreign, semi-foreign, semi-cobby, or cobby. Distinct breeds include Zandian, Nandjan, Galdish, or Khurshidi.

Procreation

Follows the mother.

Magic

One in five million have heart or soul magic. Mind and body magic are possible. Void is possible. Faith is not uncommon.

Special Powers

Felinians are strong, flexible, and quick. Their reflexes are great. They have very sharp, retractable claws, excellent hearing and smell, and decent vision, especially good nightvision (but their color vision is a little off). They have a free floating clavicle that allows them to squeeze through tight spaces. They have a precise walk that accounts for their excellent balance.

Felinians cannot taste sweet flavors. Their fur can soothe or cure rheumatism.

Felinians can conserve heat by regulating their blood, can rehydrate drinking almost any kind of water (including seawater), and they have no circadian rhythms (meaning they can be active at any time of the day). They sleep quite a bit, but they don't always need to. They have an excellent righting reflex for falling.

Felinians are hunters, stalkers, and ambushers. They are known for cunning, deceit, poise, and grace.

Felinians are, due to the Queen of Cats' role as consort to the Ark, exalted above other children of the Ark. One in a thousand felinians have either good or bad luck. A given felinian will have one of the following random abilities: alluring presence, seeing evil spirits, stop victim's breathing at will once a year, good luck paw, two tails (charisma), higher toughness, high fertility, or sense danger to pregnant women/new mothers.

All felinians have nine lives: they can hit DE eight times and survive.

Weaknesses

Certain toxins and diseases are sure to harm them, including feline AIDS, toxoplasmosis, and the eating condition pica. White felinians with blue eyes tend to be deaf.

Culture

Felinians live in small colonies, lead by one dominant felinian. Every member of the colony has its own territory (usually its home) with neutral areas between them. They are aloof people.

Felinians engage in a series of social customs when meeting that includes symbolic social grooming (usually running a claw through the hair of someone else) and nose touching. They use their tails to show social status. They are extremely clean people.

Felinians hunt alone and recreationally, striking for the neck when they kill. They share prey with the whole community. It is notable that they do not like cold food and are indifferent to sweets. Their guards like to perch in high spots to survey their territory.

Felinians use a range of specific vocalizations in their communication, including purring, growling, yowling, etc., but only so called civilized felinians. Primitive, tribal felinians are generally almost silent.

Felinians of all ages love to play, especially mock hunting games.

There are many religious associations with felinians. The Beloved Divine's chair is said to be carried by especially beautiful felinians. The first Prophet of the Sun Goddess was said to have been best friends with a felinian. The Devil is said to be openly disdainful of felinians. Followers of the Pestilential Gods spread lies that they caused plagues so that they would be killed and driven out of plague-struck towns, allowing for the loss of felinians and cats to allow the rats carrying the parasites carrying the plague to thrive, and felinians are known to be the enemies of snakes. Sailors believe a felinian is good luck on a ship (which may be true, see above). Felinians use mummification in their funeral rites.
