Elemental Magic

Elemental magic is magic from nature, from the cosmos, from the elements of the world. They derive from uncultivated, unsettled, untouched nature, mostly, from the fundamental, from the environmental. Any aspect of nature may be represented in it and wielded by those who are friends to nature or the cosmos, who seek to protect, preserve, or life in symbiosis with it. It is sometimes split between Ordinal and Non-Ordinal elements.

Ordinal and Non-Ordinal

Ordinal elements vary by culture, but they represent what people see as the most fundamental aspects of nature. In the imperial core, this is often reduced to four elements - earth, fire, water, and air. In the southeast, it is often earth, fire, water, metal, and wood. Other places include light, darkness, life, death, the cosmos, time, natural law, elemental chaos, fungi, animals, or microbes. Non-ordinal elements are anything not included in a culture's list of ordinal elements.

Elemental Names

There are many ways to wield elemental magic, but ultimately, it derives from the Names of elemental concepts. Some are much more common than others. Below are the most common Names, the concepts they represent, and the commonest methods used to wield them.
