Dewin Drain
Dewiniaid drain are "thorn wizards," those who wield
thorn energy, the infernal botanical energy, through special plants and their properties on Shem. All
doppelgangers have the ability to work with these plants as well, but dewiniaid drain learn more ways to use them than the average Aeldian. Other beings besides doppelgangers may learn to be dewiniaid drain.
Gardens
The garden of a dewin drain will have some or all of the
planhigion pigog (thorny plants). As with all
infernal plants, planhigion pigog require souls, blood, and emotions of distress to grow. In order to gain power from their gardens, dewin drainiaid must sacrifice hearts to the garden by killing someone they are jealous or envious of, cutting out their heart, and burning it in the garden's soil, then dousing it with their own blood.
Tân
Dewiniaid drain use
mieri berry berries to create tân, a green infernal flame that is raw thorn energy. It will consume facets of a person if they are burned with it, but in the small doses it exists in via the berries, it is not strong enough. Instead, it is used to ignite infernal pollen to create velvet mist or to light
white celandine to create thornlight.
Heartdraining
When grown on the vine,
white celandine emits a fragrance that drains emotions from victims who are ensnared in it. Victims must be totally drained of emotion for their identities to be stolen by the dewin drain.
Thornlight
Some dewin drainiaid use flowers from their gardens as small lanterns that flicker with burning thornlight when lit by tân. Thornlight will take the face away from any who stare into it too long, but it will not give the face to anyone. Instead, it uses it as fuel to burn brighter. Strong enough thornlight (once enough faces have been consumed) can consume bodies or more, but always it ends in the target being consumed by the fire, leaving behind a husk similar to the one left by victims of the dewin drain's garden.
Velvet Mist
Some dewin drainiaid learn to gather pollen from their garden to make a potent cloud of poison. This poison can be ignited by tân and turned into velvet mist. Velvet mist will consume the identity/identities of all within its grasp. It is very potent and can allow the dewin drainiaid to consume larger targets, or to more completely consume a target.
Binding Vines
There are many vined plants among the planhigon pigog, but the
long creeper and
gwinwydd drain are most commonly grown to ensnare others.
White celandine is also commonly used.
Consuming Thorns
Almost all planhigon pigog have thorns, but gwinwydd drain is the most commonly used to consume identities with thorns.
Poisons
There are several potent poisons commonly produced from their gardens:
- Danadl poethion: deadly poisonous nettle that is the most potent of the poisons.
- Planhygin: commonly used to make poisonous teas used by doppelgangers.
- Pys gwenwyn: poisonous peas that will contain the characteristics of those the garden consumes, allowing the dewin drainiaid to preserve those traits and eat and thus steal them at their leisure.
- Velvetine apple: apples that put those who consume them in a hundred-year sleep.
