Common Methods

Common methods of wielding magic on Shem have similar mechanical functions, regardless of which energy they are using. The energies used will cause variations, but there's a base mechanic or rules that are covered here. If a magical effect or method does not specify, it defaults to the below if it fits one of these categories. But if the description of a specific method contradicts what is written here, it means that specific method is different.

Aura

Aura effects will have a specific radius or diameter centered on the character using it or on whom it is effected.

Gaze

A gaze attack requires the target to lock eyes with the caster, usually meaning an AWA roll to hit and AWA to dodge. Success rate of the hit matters, but any hit is bad news for the target, as the eyes are vulnerable and close to the brain. For example, a petrifying gaze attack will begin the petrification process in the brain, meaning even a normal success can kill or incapacitate the target.

Ingested Effects

An effect caused by an ingested substance cannot be dodged, and the power of it will be affected by the dose taken. The effect may then be slowly released, repeatedly affecting the target; instantly released, usually unleashed by interaction in the stomach (and thus starting there); or delayed release, only affecting the target later. These will be specified in the ingestible's description.

Mirrors

Mirrors capture images.
