Fey Spirits

Beings based on legends, stories, myths, fairytales, or folklore who use fey magicks.

Abarimon: spirits that appear to be 4' tall people with their feet turned backwards. They live in magical valleys that have air that is so powerful it makes it impossible to breathe other air. They live with wondrous animals who are too ferocious to capture. They are very fast runners.

Arusi or Alusi: spirits from the southern continent with connections to ancestors. Each has a particular function and form. Read more about alusi online for more information.

Atua: spirits of the islands in the far south. They are many and varied, ranging from the patupaiarehe to the menehune to the nuku-mai-tore and more. They are attuned to both their islands, the cultures there, and the fey magic present in the world. Read more about Polynesian folklore, myth, and spirits for more information.

Aziza: forest spirits who provide magic for hunters, share secrets about fire and other magicks, and help people. They are small beings with a fondness for smoking pipes. They live in anthills or trees.

Badalisc: big, furry spirits who sleep most of the time. They come out during the epiphany, share satirical poems, and then feast. Then they return to the woods.

Eloko: pl. biloko. These spirits dwell in deep rain forests in the center of the southern continents. They protect the animals and fruits of the forests, dress in leaves, live in hollowed trees, have grass growing on their bodies (and no hair), piercing eyes, sharp claws, and snouts that open to swallow humans whole. They use bells to lure people to them or charm them.

Farthan: a spirit of a fey place, taking different appearances, with magical control of the place. They range from being the spirits of a larger place, taking on its qualities, like a country, to smaller, like spirits of specific buildings, streets, or even rooms. These are always fey-defined places - they are not natural or elemental spirits. Sometimes they are very strange, such as under a specific piece of clothing, behind a certain wall, or next to a sign.

Jinni: pronounced "genie", jinn are powerful spirits who have many qualities and powers. They range from malevolent to tricksters to kindly and helpful. They spend much of their time unseen, and they come in many varieties. Read more about jinn online for ideas.

Marranghino: a clumsy spirit with a large mustache, big belly, and disproportionately large head. They are about 3' tall. They like to joke, laugh, and play with people, but never cause harm. They love hiding tools or causes minor irritations.

Naga: serpentine spirits from the southern continents who have various forms with snake-like features or just as snakes. Read more about naga online for ideas.

Panotti : spirits whose ears cover their whole body, being so large. They use their ears as blankets and wrap them around themselves instead of wearing clothes. They live on the islands. They have very good hearing and know many secrets.

Yokai: the yokai are the many and varied spirits of a distant land. They range from gigantic figures who can’t be seen to enigmatic figures who like to show you the eyeball in their anus. They are inspired by the yokai of Japan, and players interested in them should read more about them, then consult the GM.

Yehasuri: 2’ tall spirits living in tree stumps in the southwestern continent. They eat frogs and bugs. They are repelled by tobacco rubbed on one’s hand and a special chant. They are very mischievous and can be mean on occasion.

Fey Fairies

Aos Si: the rulers of all Faerie, the most powerful fairies. They are 5' to 7' tall, though usually on the shorter side, with a variety of wings or animal features. They have charms of all kinds, power over other fairies, and magic of legend. They are the folk of the mounds who came before all. They are the highest ranking of all fairies, and the Queen of All Faerie, Belphoebe, is one of them.

Avalonian: 7' tall fairies with silver skin who live longer than others. They dwell on a magical island surrounded by mists and thick with apple trees. They have charms of healing and life. They are mystic and spiritual leaders in Faerie.

Bean Nighe: washerwomen fairies with one large protruding tooth, one nostril, red webbed feet, and green clothing. They are about 4.5' tall. They know the omens of death and the charms that invoke it. They are feared and respected throughout Faerie.

Bean Sith: women fairies ranging from 1' to 8' tall. They weawr their hair long and their eyes look as if they have been crying. They are usually very pale. Their may keen and wailing to forewarn of death, and they may gather souls with their charms. They are feared and respected throughout Faerie.

Boaxente: 4' tall fairies with colorful swirls all over their flesh. They tend to be stout and broad of shoulder, though not all are. Their eyes are solid colors, usually purple. They have charms that affect emotion. They are middle-ranking in Faerie.

Changeling: a fairy swapped for a mortal child, given a mortal name. Changelings look like the mortal family they are adopted into (willingly or not), but they behave slightly "off" compared to how children are expected to develop and live in such cultures and species. As they age, they gain different fairy powers and begin showing their true nature. If they are returned to Faerie, they become much more powerful. In mortal realms, they are feared, hated, and few make it through childhood. Those who grow up thinking they are mortal never fit in, but they have many strange charms they can't explain.

Colt-Pisky: 6" to 3' tall fairies who knot the hair of horses, ride them wild, and cause problems for colts, ponies, and other small farm animals. They can also take the form of a small horse at times. They have many charms for farm animals and like to cause trouble.

Fenodyree: 3' tall hairy fairies known for helping out on farms, in exchange for a price. They have many household and farm-based charms. They are very helpful, if they are kept happy. They are low-ranking in Faerie.

Fir Bolg: 6' to 7' tall fairies with shaggy hair and dark eyes, they are known for their charms of combat and war. They are often mercenary, even changing their courts at times, but they are valued for their skills in battle. They are usually middle- to high-ranking in Faerie and even valued outside of it.

Leprechaun: 3' tall fairies who are known for their bright outfits, they are wielders of the powers of luck and fortune. They are powerful and secretive and vindictive, but they can be very kind if they want to be. They are favored but not high-ranking in Faerie.

Pisky: ranging from 5" to 5.5' tall, piskies change forms often. They are known for a wide variety of charms and are a very common fairy. They have a lot of complicated magic and insights, but they are chaotic and mischievious. They are middle-ranking in Faerie.

Puca: many-formed fairies with numerous appearances, their commonest form is a tall animalistic fairy form. They are the most potent tricksters in all of Faerie, and they are often found in high-ranking positions, if they are known at all - they love to be secretive and work in the shadows. They are sometimes thought to be more powerful even than the aos si.

Tuath: 6' tall, fair folk with pointed ears, green, blue, or sepia eyes, and red, blonde, or brown hair. They are powerful fairies with charms that draw from history and time. They are high-ranking in Faerie, often scholars and bards.

Tylwyth Teg: 6' tall fair-haired folk or stunted and supernaturally ugly, depending on the day and whim of the fairy. They are among the most high-ranking of all in Faerie, and they have many charms, often commanding the order of fey itself.

Urisk: 3' tall fairies with brown clothing who wander all throughout Faerie and the world. As they wander, they draw in stories and charms. They are storytellers and friendly to all, though they like to have fun with their stories. They are middle-ranking in Faerie.

Yalley: 4' tall fairies with nearly invisible insectoid wings. They are very skinny, almost stick thin, and have bushy hair. They have charms that control and manipulate language. They are middle-ranking in Faerie.
